Great two part video from years ago. You said you need a third part. Did you ever make it? I cannot find it. Hurricane Helene flooded my pump and now its noisy. Needs new bearings.

Never understood why these lower btu models don’t have 6 coils like the higher btu model. Heat transfer is all about surface area and 6 would make it way more efficient

Sadly, my Hayward PowerFlo Matrix motor (made by Century) is split phase and has no capacitor. Yet it trips the GFI every time I turn it on. Now what ???

Kind of confused about the bulb. At 2:30 it's a bad bulb then at 2:44 it's a good bulb. I'm trying to figure out my pool light issue. I have power to the light as per my pen. I tried a different bulb & won't light up but the bulbs will light up from a lamp. Can I use my multimeter to test the light socket without the bulb is grounded? Thanks.

I agree, a really good video. Good clear explanations of each step. Especially important is that discharging the capacitor before handling was clearly explained and demonstrated. Well done !

I’m not mechanically savvy, helpful video but would’ve like closer video to actually see what you’re turning “motor shaft”, maybe see how you setup the testing on your tester first the capacitor, etc. thanks for the video!

Don't like the idea of grease on bearing or shaft ! Bearing needs to fit tight so as not to spin on shaft or end bell ! Bearing needs to do its own thing.

THIS VIDEO SAVED ME $350.00 THANK YOU SO MUCH. THE REAL PROBLEM IS THE NEW MOTOR COMES WITH A NEW CAPACITOR, BUT YOU MIGHT THINK YOU THE NEW MOTOR IS MAKING IT WORK, WHEN IN REALITY IT WAS ONLY THE NEW CAPACITOR THAT'S MAKING IT WORK. CHECK THE CAPACITOR ONLY AT FIRST!!!

I have this problem too, pump started after a few tries and when measured the capacitor i got a value of 2.07uF, so i bought an exact copy of it and before installed it i measured that one too. 14uF. Good i thought, i found the problem. But after 4 days the new capacitor just blowed up. Could it be a bad copy or could it be something else going on with the pump?

the new motor I purchased from a pool company (they ordered it from a parts distributor) claims OEM replacement. New motor does not have a threaded shaft. Now what...... The old motor and shaft has serious corrosion.Through bolts are severely corroded. Does the threaded end of the shaft unscrew from the shaft?

Thanks for the video. I have a capacitor that I believe needs replacing. I'm having a hard time finding one with the same specs. 250-300 uf 110VAC +65 C. Any idea where I can get my paws on one or are there any other that are compatible? Thanks again.

I had a brand new pump that sat around for three years before I installed it. It hummed and wouldn't run on first start. Turns out all I had to do was spin the motor shaft to loosen it up. It just got stuck sitting unused. The bearings and everything else were fine, it's still running now, two plus years later. However this would not be the main reason for a motor to hum and not run. But it is a reason that's easy to check!

This video may be 3 years old but it's just as valid as the day it was released. I followed this process today and fixed my pool pump with no issues. The pump is about 12 years old but was still running very quietly until yesterday when it wouldn't start and was just humming. Removing the capacitor was a simple task, I took it to the pool shop, they confirmed it was dead and sold me a replacement for AUD $44.00. Five minutes to replace it and job done. Thanks for the clear and simple advice.

You're in Australia i take but your mention of AUD. Can I ask, so you just turn off the mains power before doing this or just unplug the pool pump? I was thinking just to unplug the pump. Do you still have to discharge the capacitor?

@@elwood4965 Hi, yes I’m in Australia. I just switched off the power to the pump, removed 4 screws holding the cover over the capacitor, photographed it in place, removed the capacitor and took it into a pool shop, they tested and confirmed it was faulty, obtained a correct replacement and reinstalled. I haven’t had a problem since. Good luck 🤞

#1 Seal plate was cracked inside the shaft seal recession. #2 Never install shaft seals by directly touching the ceramic sides.....the oils in your hands degrade them and cause premature failure which leads to bearing failure. #3 Clean the piss out of all the parts, especially the internal parts and spray with electronic cleaner just before assembly to rid any dust/debris inside the winding area.

Good video, was getting ready to order from Amazon 2 seals, they cost $21.50, the 203 seal is less than $5 on Amazon. Same seal, looks like but one is marketed to pool pumps. Like the Plasto Joint seal, thanks will look for it as well. Any suggestions on the o ring kits?

You are a legend. I'm going to give this a try tomorrow. Had a pool guy come out today and tell me I need a new pump but it makes the exact same humming noise as this. My only question is I have 3 connectors that connect to the capacitor. If I get a new capacitor does it matter where those pins gets connected? Or can they connect anywhere? Only asking cos the one that is currently in it is very hard to source so need to get a different brand

Who the heck would construct a test system with a 90 degree fitting directly attached to a 3-way valve?!? And the pressure gauge is also too close to a 90 degree fitting for accurate readings. While I understand this does not invalidate the comparison between VS and SS pumps it’s disappointing a self proclaimed expert would make such installation errors
