I'm doing something similar. I picked up 2x 120x35mm high airflow 3000 rpm fans. Like 125cfm each lol. I don't have 3d printer but plan on mocking one up with cardboard. Not sure if I can put them in line with each other at either end of a 7" long box. But I'll try lol. If it works out I'll make a thin plywood box or something. Also found some tubing for the suction side that stays put when you bend it. Still not sure how I'm going to do it but hopefully those little fans can move a lot more air

By the way, what's a good alternative to that funnel if you you don't already have a 3d printer? Maybe just hack together some funnels until you get both ends the right size and some hot glue, I guess? Or maybe box of some sort? Hmm...

It's a large funnel and I'll place it slightly above the work area. Do you think it works this way? Or does it work from a distance of 1-2 cm?

Are you 3D printing a 'mouth' for the tubing?
@MakeFunStuff Жыл бұрын
So far just at the fan end. It works pretty good as-is, although a mouth might make it better. If you make something similar with a mouth, let me know how it goes!

If I have a fume extractor inside my room & wear a mask, keep the fan on & the window cracked is that enough ventilation. It's 100⁰f outside and I can't solder in that heat anymore. Is this safe enough conditions to do it inside?
@mrxpexplorer6318 Жыл бұрын
when your hair starts falling out you know you doing something wrong.
@chiefbabylungs608 Жыл бұрын
You just have to install an air filter to the tubing so air gets pulled through the filter before being released
@trongcuong1710 Жыл бұрын
I saw you are doing a pull configuration there. Do you think a push configuration would work? Basically the fan will be place at the table and the tube end will be place outside
@MakeFunStuff Жыл бұрын
I don't see why that wouldn't work, and it might even work better. The suction would be a little weaker but over a larger area, which might make it easier to position.

This is such a great idea - thanks for sharing! Can i just ask where (and how) you mount the carbon filter listed in the parts list?
@MakeFunStuff Жыл бұрын
Thanks! I didn't use a carbon filter since this is venting the fumes directly out a window, I just linked one as a reference for anybody that can't vent it outside. My model isn't set up with that in mind though, so it won't mount to it directly (unfortunately).

Hi i am from Indonesia. What if reversed position. The end of the drain hose on the window and the fan near the soldering station?
@MakeFunStuff Жыл бұрын
I can't say for sure, but I think that should work just as well. The speed of the air being pulled in where you're soldering would move a little slower since it's spread over a larger area, but my guess is that it'd still be fast enough to get the job done.
@coretanmasdede Жыл бұрын
It makes perfect sense and it's not it occurred to me. Same with the working system of the vacuum machine. Finally, how many grams from the 3D model design. Because, in my country there is a 3D printing service that is calculated by weight for production costs? Thank you.
@MakeFunStuff Жыл бұрын
That depends on the settings you use when printing (infill, etc.), but with supports and 20% infill my slicer estimates 133g.

Glad you like it! I don't think it would be too challenging for a first project, no individual part of it is too complicated and each part should be very similar to guides or tutorials you can find online, and all my code is available (see the link in the description). @MakeFunStuff2 жыл бұрын
You could use a bigger tube, although the wider it is the slower the airflow will be. Depending on the size that may not be an issue, but you may need a more powerful fan as well. It's worth a shot though!
