Wh King to B8. Then White Pawn to C7. Doesn't matter what black does from there.
@nickflaherty9532
@nickflaherty9532 Сағат бұрын
Why not this: white pawn promoted to queen at f8, then move 2 is for white queen to take pawn at b7, check mate, because king is stopped from moving by white king?

PSA: If you're sitting on this for longer that 20min, grab a board. I missed something crucial, dismissed the solution like 5min in, and my facepalm hours later woke the neighbours.

For me the key was noticing the position of black’s pawns and then seeing what intermediate square white’s queen had to be on to play Qf5# in response to Kg6.

I figured this one out because you either have to cover g6 after the first move so the king cannot escape, or be able to move the queen to f5 on the second move, in case the king moves to g6. Then I was able to go through the possibilities and use process of elimination.

That was an adventure that took far longer than it should have. In fact, after several minutes I had to walk away to clear my head. Upon returning I found the answer right away. Sure, it was a bit frustrating but that made finding the solution all the more satisfying.

Pretty good. Worked this one out by: -testing other pieces briefly and determining the first move had to be with the queen. -eliminating Qg3 and Qa6 due to ...g5, but recognizing the mate on the seventh rank if ...g6 -realizing that if Black plays ...g5, I can give mate with Qf5 -similarly realizing if Black plays ...Kg6, Qf5 is a dovetail mate -the only move that allows Qf5 or Q->7th rank on move two is Qh3 (and then recognizing the pin on the g-pawn if ...Kh8)

The 3rd worst feeling is not being able to solve Chess Strategy's puzzle. The 2nd worst feeling is being able to solve Chess Strategy's puzzle, but realizing that it was a particularly easy puzzle. The worst feeling is being able to solve Chess Strategy's puzzle, realizing that it was relatively simple, but then getting it wrong anyway because you didn't think through all the possibilities.

There is a production problem with this. The task bar blocks row 1. There is no need for that. It would be much better to always allow the entire board to be in view.

At 6:52 the black rook on the h file is pinned and so cannot go anywhere. Presumably the white king can just devour the other black rook if he is very hungry.

And the 3rd thought was, that I will search for a poor victim to play this a many and a lot of times on the real chess board, until we have found a solution on our own, without peeping into the explanations... 😂
