I missed the double check line, so I discarded the right move😤 🙂

It may be an easy position, but it's quite a nifty one. The fastest mate comes from allowing black more options rather than reducing them.
@JustAnotherCommenter19 күн бұрын
Well, the first move does restrict black in going to the [REDACTED] square in the next move to deliver the checkmate. The solution was only really findable after checking all the options with the first piece mentioned, and one can realize that the previously mentioned square is the escape square in all other variations.

I can’t believe it, I must be getting better at these! I got it in about 15 seconds. The first move I considered was the correct move. Amazing. Usually it takes me 10-15 mins if I solve it at all

So proud when I solve one of these. But it always seems to take examining 10-20 other positions before the right one occurs, lol!

Usually I struggle with these, but here I saw it almost instantly

The quite obvious key move took me less than five seconds. - Still, the counter-check mate is very funny. 👍

Delightful puzzle! I'm pleased I managed to solve it: one of those where you have to ask why a particular piece is on the board. Thinking about that led me to the correct move. Thanks, Mikael! 👍👍👍

Interesting setup. Black's hands are pretty well tied, but finding the two-move solution is a challenge. I would settle for a three-move since there is an embarrassment of riches in this scenario.

@3:30 that ones the best outcome, checkmate the king with a pawn... double check is also beautiful because it's overkill.

I decided to sac the knight but I overlooked the check. But then , found the double-check

In the starting position, the only move that black can do is h3, giving an escape square for black in h4. How can white mate after h3 ? It is clear that the first move must cover the square h4. So the only move that can do that is Nf5. Pretty little 2 mover.

It took me about 30 minutes, but I finally found it. Thanks.

Solved it. But more important, I thought all black options through. Took me about 4min all in all.

It was the Knight before the Queen all through the house, not a pawn could stir not even a Bishop get out. Thanks for the puzzle

What about Q-e6 followed by Q-g4? There doesn't seem to be anything black can do to avoid a mate
@IrishMace9920 күн бұрын
Black can respond with ...Bf4+. White is certainly still winning, but it's no longer a mate in 2.
@MatthewPierret20 күн бұрын
Pleased to say I solved this but resisted giving up the pin until I had tried all of the wrong moves. Given the highly constrained initial position for Black, it is interesting that the right move frees two Black pieces and allows a check, then the double check blocks them again.
@houpelaye19 күн бұрын
I found 2. g4+ easily because I know that pawn g2 is there for a reason. Same thing for the knight, knowing that Ne2 or Ne6 would not be a mate in 2 moves.

I can kick myself for not getting this one. I deduced that a knight move was the only way to go but couldn't envision the double check in my head. One of these days I'll move actual pieces on a real board and maybe then will I solve a puzzle or two. Eesh!
