Drums and Thom in 4/4. Ed O'Brian and Jonny Greenwood playing cyclical arpeggios in 3/8 and 5/8 respectively. Creates this mesmerising dreamscape of polyrhythms: a texture which is ever evolving but never fully resolves; where no single bar is the same as any other. Kind of like life itself. And death. And fishes. A true masterpiece in every sense of the word.

ACL's 2016 second weekend they performed this song and one only a few times that music has made me emotional, literally tears. The crowd was swaying some in arm in arm, just an incredible experience. Incredible that a song by a rock band can be so beautiful and emotional as this one is, especially when performed live.

Favorite part about this song: how the main guitar "oscillates" up and down just like a sine/cosine wave (e.g. - a traveling particle of light), and how extra emphasis is put on this idea as the song and guitar evolve. Literally genius. Incredible creativity!!

... and of course how there's interference/distortion in the guitar when Thom sings "dare not speak His name". And how they enter a new dimension at the climax of the song. And... And.... And....

Radiohead are not a band. They’re a musical quintet.

This song has very powerful meaning to me...In 2000, My wife was dying from bone cancer. We also had a 7mo. daughter at home. I was driving back and forth to the hospital and I was being torn apart. My wife needed me and the baby needed me. I'm praying on one trip "God help Me!" And this song came on the radio - I heard the words clearly....I don't think it was coincidence...I got my answer.
