I do many crafts (knitting, crocheting, felting, etc...) but it's sewing which makes me stressed more than the other. And I never knew why. Maybe, like you say, I am afraid to make a mistake. Or maybe there is something in sewing that makes me nervous. Maybe a pressure, I don't know. I have been sewing for 10 years and I am in the same state as the beginning. If you have an idea... 🤔

Omg - you crying over your first stitch is so relatable lol!! I totally forgot about my sewing machine being completely unusable at first. We took it to be repaired so many times and ultimately figured out it was all because we were putting the bobbin in the wrong direction 😂

Sheep need to be shorn because they are domesticated that way. You can’t skip it, even if you don’t use up the wool. Much of the wool is simply not used today and that’s a waste. Not sustainable. The fly strike topic is a different topic, and there are multiple ways to prevent it. Some are cruel, some are not, but it’s not related to wool production. It happens to he sheep kept for meat as well + the fly strike is worse than anything that they can do to prevent it.

Omg, yes your right. I watch videos and in particular invisible zips ones so I can perfect them. The videos are so quick and the sewer gets its perfect everytime. So I try to emulate that but I can’t. It makes me feel like I will never get it. I’ve learnt that I have to take my time to get a perfect result. Yes it’s so frustrating and there is a-lot of unpicking, pinning, sewing, unstitching and re sewing until I get it right. Yes I get frustrated, angry, anxious, stressed etc and when I’m finished I’m so relieved. The next day I check my work and find that I have to correct my work. I need to sew closer to the zips teeth. I struggle getting it really close. Sometimes it works and other times I need to go over my work. That’s when I get frustrated, angry, anxious, stressed etc I pack up and walk away and continue the following day. I have to because I start to take out my frustration on what I’m seeing which isn’t good because it can cause more problems which I then have to go back and fix.

Yes, you said it! And you've touched on so many layers that are going on in social media, Alexandra. For me, sewing is about joy and self-expression and slowing down and relaxing. I love the meditative, creative process of sewing, and I love reflecting back on my own learning journey. But here's another thing that's happening in social media, and it is especially hard on content creators who really just want to share with others. That is, the pressure to copy other's content, and I think that is where there is this emphasis on showing off all the fashions you've made in a year comes from. Content creators who are sewists feel they have to rank on social media, so they find themselves doing stuff that others are doing, even if it pressures them, because they want to get views, and of course they do. But somewhere, we just need to get back to sewing because we are passionate about it. I really love your channel because it is all about personal authenticity and growth, and love. Maybe you can do some more on this issue for 2024, as there's many of us who agree with you, who want to sew for the love of sewing, share our joy on social media with others, and who also take joy in body positivity and sewing sustainably.

I love the idea to sew a bigger project and learning the techniques you need along the way. The likely more difficult garments always come out a little bit nicer because I don't expect them to be sewn up fast. So I take my time. I'm quite impatient so that's the most difficult. Rushing through often leads to mistakes. I also like to a sew a pattern more often and just change one bit to see what that changes. That make my technical skills stronger. Happy sewing 🧵🪡❤

I love this video, Alexandra, because it is true. Like you, I weathered the storm when my dad died of leukemia, and many years later when my mom slowly died of Alzheimer's - something maybe similar to what you are experiencing with your father. As you say, there is a time for all seasons. I believe I feel my parents near me, sometimes. I know we'll be together again in Heaven someday.

Alexandra, I really love what you are doing, here, in your channel. I've watched several videos (just subscribed) and I know you are pivoting the channel a little to be more about creativity and sending out positive messages, and not just about sewing. I really think this is fantastic and that you're doing a wonderful job. Watching your videos is inspiring to me. Please keep following your passion, because it really is coming through in your videos, and that is why they are so good. And well done on the new sewing pattern, too!
