Just at our record convention here in Alabama is overkill for me. I can’t imagine being at the one in Austin

OMG! Triana! Never imagined I would see a record of that band being known out of Spain. They were from my home town (Seville), and my father's favourite band, back in the 70s (he had their albums in cassette). Enjoy them!

Love your channel and you've got me collecting again after a decade! Also , you did a video talking about when you were a kid, getting lost from your family on a trip when you went to look for records. Can you tell me what that video was, I want to watch it again. Thanks.

For some reason YT has been jamming these "audiophile" videos in my "recommended" list. Watching them is like watching videos of Kennedy Assassination Conspiracy theorists. Those guys all make the same assertion that HE is the only one who know THE truth and only HE is correct....just like all the other 217+ brain surgeons.

6:25 Having worked for Columbia I can tell you those are not "eyes." Those are loudspeakers.

I do understand that but it is commonly referred to as a 6 eye label.

Yes, it’s very overwhelming, I go every year but Dangit I missed this one forgot all about it. Works a Bear! I heard Cub Koda used to go these conventions, before my time! Have you ever heard the album from Eddie Hazel Dames Games and guitar thangs? It’s a great guitar jam album I have the 9 track but I think the vinyl is also rare.😮

I dont get the hate comments, ppl didnt get your point. Whichever format you prefer, there is no real point in discussing wich is better, is a personal preference. People should stop that stupid vinyl vs cd vs streaming war cause music is what brings us here together

You went for it and succeeded. A bunch of great adds to the collection. For my money, the best thing about these shows is the meetups with fellow VC'ers. Its what truly makes the trip worthwhile. Big ups on the Jesper Silva's Giant Steps, a favorite for sure.

A record collector who does not want to play them, as is with these 'slab' things, does not love music, does not love the thing inside the slab. I think all that is in slabs should be downgraded in value because they diminish the value of existing. Stuff inside a slab is demoted into becoming just a picture of a possible item. You don't need the item anymore an image of it is enough. The same should be done with shrinkwrap items. No.1 it can be applied new and then the item gets value so it will be sold for more just because of the shrinkwrap. But who say's it was never played/read or whatever. People who want slabs or shrinkwrap should just collect coins or stamps. Just stay away from objects that give more pleasure than just looking at it. An old record unplayed is really a sad affair and I have several records unplayed that really don't sound that much better. I have lightly scratched records, of cours the less scratches its better, but they play still great and I have great listing from them. After a while you don't here those scratches that much and you just enjoy the music. So cut the slabs and put on that record. That's what they were made to do. By the way....if those slabs are made from PVC.....your record becomes unplayable and thus worthless.

Every used record has its own history, smell and scars. I prefer to play them and while doing that I mostly wonder how well they have aged.

I stopped collecting comics in 1990 when all this garbage started and the 'collectors' market was now manufactured, not organic - hence now the ridiculous 'record store day' land fill crap as - transitioning into the twilight of record collecting.. 'professional 3rd party grade schtick' . Warning to all this is going to get stupid - and I see many potential problems with how it's being processed into a plastic coffin. Terrible money grab.

I saw 2 vendors at the spring Austin Record Convention (2024) a couple of weeks ago. I thought this sort of presentation was ridiculous and inconvenient. And the sellers were charging over-the-top prices for records allegedly signed by the artist without a COA.

@noblerecords My heart SANK when you mentioned a SEALED Pink Floyd DSOTM. I had one. Original from the 70’s. Didn’t realize the value and gave it to my daughter who was getting into vinyl. It’s been opened and played. I did keep the poster tho. I should’ve kept that record sealed. 😩 P.S. I do still have a sealed Hotel California from the 70’s tho.

I saw another youtuber interview one of the Slab-guys at a booth at the Austin Record Convention. He said there's a lot of slabbing new records. That's where this is going wrong. Slabbing your 'limited color variant 1 of 1000' manufactured scarcity bullcrap from youknowwho, is silly.

I didn’t want to click on this video because I was thinking that there are no ten records that are universally important. That it’s up to the listener. Surprise! We think the same way! Here’s my ten essentials in no order: 1: Less Thank Jake “Hello Rockview” 2: Powerman 5000 “Tonight The Stars Revolt” 3: Misfits “Collection 1” 4: Smash Mouth “Fush Yu Mang” 5: Metallica “Master of Puppets” 6: Alkaline Trio “Good Mourning” 7: Tiger Army “III” 8: Tool “Lateralus” 9: Gaslight Anthem “Handwritten” 10: John Pizzarelli Trio “For Centennial Reasons”

Regarding your statement of making a sealed record little more than a commodities exchange, I completely agree -- I think sealing a record in plastic like that is dumb. However, utilizing the grading system as a way of standardizing the condition of a record isn't a bad idea. I don't know how I feel about having to pay some guy a fee to say, "Yup, this is an 8 out of ten," but I do understand the potential value in that if you're getting records on the secondary market.
@noblerecords4 күн бұрын
I get that, but it costs $40-50 to do it, so it’s not really worth it in that regard
@BillAdams-fb3jm3 күн бұрын
@@noblerecords I can see what you're saying, I'm just looking at it as being similar to arranging a system for grading to that which is used on collectibles like comic books. By the same token too, I would love to believe that people collect records for the love of music and not just as "the next investment opportunity," but sometimes people miss the point like that.

I dont think that its ALWAYS just about the money. I have been thinking of slabbing my first copy, as banged up as it is, of Meet The Beatles. I haven't played it in years, because I have several copies that sound better. But it has great sentimental value to me. It wouldn't fetch a high price, but its special to me.

If I open/play a record, that means it's NM/M- on Discogs, automatically. I would never flag an opened/played record as Mint. I receive sealed "Mint" records with bent corners _(and no damage to the packaging)_ and I disagree with that practice. Imagine getting something and being let down. Don't put that on someone else to make a quick buck, please.
@Atodaso4 күн бұрын
I bought a sealed Japanese first pressing of Born In The U.S.A. and Side A was amazing - Side B was full of crackles on all tracks _(cleaned several times and it stayed the same)_ - No recourse with a sealed, ~40 yr old record. Not the seller's fault. Was a bummer, to say the least. I bought another with a mint disc and a VG sleeve, and swapped it into the mint sleeve :)
