Every version of this song is beautiful regardless if mother or any of the daughters sing, they all add their own unique touch. Imagine being a friend of the family and getting to sit around on the porch with them all singing. Beautiful family. ❤ RIP, sweet Helen.

I almost like this version the best, Helen had the vocals in the family, my opinion. I know respect these women when earlier years of my life, though not into country.. I was wrong, I know live in TN.

I sure wish Helen was alive to read all the nice comments here. She was the glue that held the Carter SIsters group together. She was the one who knew all the lyrics, the chords, the keys, the modulations... Not to take anything from the others, but they all looked to Helen for the musical cues. Helen did an acoustic solo album in the 1970s. You can hear it here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2bPY6mnpJKSodE

Too bad Anita couldn’t keep her hands odd of June’s husband, Johnny Cash and vice versa. June is a better woman than I am. Neither one of them would be in my life. Talent doesn’t make you beautiful a loving heart does. June had a truly loving heart. Rip June

They both had absolutely very powerful and beautiful voices and I love both singers. The difference is that Anita had unbelievable range Patsy could never hit the high notes Anita could. Anita was characterized as a soprano by some and could sing soprano while still being able to sing any lower range as well.

Without a doubt Miss Anita was in a special class of singers. She doesn't get the notoriety she richly deserved. A real woman, so beautiful and with such a sweet voice; I suspect she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She is my all-time favorite female country performer.

AN ASTONISHING PERFORMANCE BY HER. SHE SHOULD HAVE RECORDED THIS AS A 45RPM SINGLE. (THAT LEAD GUITAR SUCKED; WHAT A TERRIBLE TONE, AND PLAYING.) NEVER SEEN HER HEAVY LIKE THIS BEFORE, BUT SHE STILL LOOKED GREAT, ESPECIALLY HER FACE, OF COURSE!

Nice to see that the writer in the family got to lead like her mother. How she happily does it reading the crowd and feeling the music. This why people have to create what works for them like maybel did with the carter scratch. They will be missed.

Notice that these performers, just like Maybelle herself, draw out the singing lines to make not-very-timely recitations of the lyrics. It was charming when Maybelle did it, but not so innovative the second time around. Still, it's a tribute to Mother and an effort to keep this sound and presentation innovative.
