Anita Carter may had been the more versitile vocalist of the Carter Family that could sing about everything. She didn't chart many hit records but sang duets with Hank Snow, Waylon Jennings among others. She rightfully deserves a lot of praise of a great singer she really was.

Without a doubt Miss Anita was in a special class of singers. She doesn't get the notoriety she richly deserved. A real woman, so beautiful and with such a sweet voice; I suspect she was just as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She is my all-time favorite female country performer.

my band(Johnston Bros.) warmed up for Johnny Cash at Jamboree in the Hills 1979...Bob was on guitar with Johnny's band. Coincidently, we played The Caravan Club in Albuquerque a few months later, and in walked Bob and the rest of the group...I told Bob I loved the show ...how impressed we were...I noticed his role was primarily to play the Luther Perkins tic tac guitar parts. He sort of smiled and said "yeah, it's real hard to branch out on this gig"

This song has a tragic but amazing history. It was made a hit in two different decades by two different Superstars and was written by another Superstar of the time. Paul Anka wrote the song, who was big in the sixties and seventies. Buddy Holly recorded it just before his death and it went on to be a posthumus hit for him, although he never knew it. Then Linda Ronstadt re-released it, adding her own guitar riffs to it (as can be heard here) and made a hit with it. Now here two other Superstars (Anita Carter and Bob Wootten) are doing it

Luther Perkins died in the hospital from complications from injuries from a house fire. He apparently went to sleep in the living room while holding a lit cigarette. His daughter awoke around 6:00 am to find the living room in flames and Perkins collapsed near the door. An emergency crew rushed Perkins to Vanderbilt University Hospital, where he was kept in intensive care until finally succumbing on Monday, August 5, 1968

Odd thing though, I've never heard of Anita before or she might have gotten lost in the family group while on stage, I thought I've seen them all. I know the song and I know it has a faster pace than that, then someone mentioned Buddy Holly, Well Of Course! thanks.

I warmed up for Marty Stuart at Sunset Park in 1991, and got to talking with him about that show I saw with my brother at Jambouree in the Hills, how much we loved it - Marty was in Johnny's band at that time. I told him about my conversation, which I though showed Bob Wootten's sense of humor...Marty scowled at me like I was a piece of crap. Guess he didn't get it.

Well, there was probably a reason for that...Bob and Anita divorced not very long after this video, and Marty Stuart was a Cash in-law at the time of your concert. In Marshall Grant's book, there are veiled references to some hanky-panky going on in the Cash band during the late 1970s, and I would imagine that some of the family had little use for poor ol' Bob.
