Gary, I’ve got those vinyl picture disks too! I was floored by the perfectly balanced stereo sound of this recording. It gave me a cold chill down the entire length of my back when I first heard it. The crowd is nutty at the beginning and it took 35 years later to find out why. The spotlight hits Jimmy prior to the SRTS intro and we finally get to see it on Richfield Coliseum footage. Now…about the Ace guitar strap: it always came loose and Ray had to run out and help put it back on. The ends on those straps are flimsy and the holes wear open easily. Lastly, we know that Zeppelin ALWAYS played good in LA, their favorite venue no doubt. If you listen to Millard’s tape from San Diego two nights prior to this Eddie gig you’ll find Bonzo having a very rough night. Playing behind the beat all night and missing cues. Very disappointing performance. So, two nights later in LA I think he wanted to prove to his band mates that he hadn’t in fact lost it and I’d say he made up for that 6-19 SD gig ten fold. Plus…again….opening night in LA….Bonzo turned in the best performance of his career hands down! Zeppelin will once again give No Quarter. Evidently Mike captured 4 of the 6 nights - including the final night…which sounds about as good as this opening night! You can hear a little complacency starting to settle back in by the sixth night but…Zeppelin at is most sluggish is far better than most any other band. Back to Millard. I’ve heard a story that Jim actually went to mikes house looking for this tape, years later of course, after hearing that he had recorded the show. He HAS to be thankful that the bootleggers captured their best moments live. Grant and Cole were hardwired for confrontation so…they looked for these guys for sport. We’re all thankful Mike used his dad’s wheelchair. This is the most famous bootleg in history.

I have a Destroyer set but it’s from Landover, May 30, ‘77. It’s an audience tape. I’m aware though that the original Destroyer is 4.27.77 and actually the next night too. Two brothers evidently taped that 4.28 show and it’s excellent. Have you heard it? The 8mm footage which surfaced last year was a revelation of sorts. I’ve been waiting for ANY footage for years and we finally got some. I saw that bit where Bonzo runs up to his kit. I’m thinking he was either in the restroom or up to other non-descriptive activities.

The song "The Riddler's Retreat" is actually The Beatles 1964 song "She Loves You". The song "The Bat Cave" is actually Booker T. & The M.G.'s 1962 song "Green Onions". The song "Robin's Theme" is the other vocal on the album & you forgot to mention that!! The reissued CD is the MONO version (same on Apple iTunes)!!

It all goes with the laws of physics. The more level you put onto vinyl the more physical space you would need on the vinyl. The downside is that the closer you get to the record label, the more distortion you will have on those end grooves. Also, low end content plays a major roll when cutting vinyl. The more bass you have on a record the lower the overall level. Bass levels are worse for making the needle jump that actual amplitude. Record cutting engineers had to make a chose of either reducing the low end content with equalization, or lower the overall level being cut on the vinyl. The downside of choosing to cut at lower levels is the increase in record noise. Pops and clicks are more prominent with a lower level cut than standard level cuts because the consumer just cranks the volume knob on the stereo to compensate for there being less level on the record, and when you do that, you also increase the level of pops and clicks. Another album with these discrepancies is Grand Funk Railroad's second album, titled Grand Funk (Red Album.) This record was deliberately cut at a lower level because of the bass content on the album's master tapes. With CD's, that all goes away. There are no limitations in level or skipping anomalies with CD's

Did I hear the opening correctly that Phil Hendrie was the “host”? He had a pretty hilarious talk show for a while later on the ‘90s I remember seeing this tour on its U.S. leg in Philly, almost the same set list as the “rock night”, as I recall.

I kinda love them all... the bad ones are just something you have to love a littler harder for being bad (but entertaining). For me, based on no real knowledge whatsoever other than personal observations, place Pickwick at the top tier of the basement record companies bitd. The cover shot, with the mexican football fan gear, mittens, and over-the-top-lip mustache just adds to the charm, and a sense that the original producers weren't trying to be anything other than what they were.

The original musicians on the first few albums were from The Wrecking Crew, the famous collection of LA studio musicians. Once popularity of the TJB demanded public appearances, Alpert assembled a band for the remainder of the 60's. The TJB band members may have participated in other sessions after that, so it's possible, but they're not to be confused with The Wrecking Crew, who were completely separate.

Mooney was an Animal on and off the stage! Dressing up...Hitler for a day... Drag queen for irritated his square neighbors... driving his Rolls Royce in his swimming pool...cherry bombs in toilet...tv sets out the motel windows...horse tranquilizers on stage. Keith was way more of an animal than some puppet. God rest his crazy, wild, drum beating soul. Mooney the looney was a lovable gingerbread man! 🤪 we miss you Keith. Crazy and sweet you were really a shooting star mate. Love you buddy and hope you are pranking in the next life! ✌

The first to break the Pop Chart radio limit to under 3 minutes was Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" at more than 5 minutes in 1965. The next was "The Beatles'" "Hey Jude" in 1968.
