All the magic is in the cylinder heads. A true cross flow deign. It was chosen for the NHRA Topfuel class cause it was easy to disasemble and reassemble between rounds. making it ideal for this kind of racing. It truly is the KING of the V8's.

A bullchit statement, the HEMI performance was unmatched, WHAT. That Scammer 427 was beyond belief but let's go back to NASCAR and tell the whole story. In 63 the side oiler OHV 427 took the top five spots at Daytona. In 63 Chrysler introduced the 426 HEMI and it did indeed take the top three spots at Daytona but the 427 went on to win more races than Chrysler or GM and won the manufacture's championship just like the year before. I do know the 427 got a new intake giving the 427 more top end. From 63 through 68 the 427 won more races each and every year right up through and including 68 denying the HEMI from ever winning a manufacturers championship against the Ford 427 side oiler. In 69 Ford introduced the BOSS 429 and it too won the manufacture's championship by winning more races than the HEMI or any GM product. In 1970 NASCAR banned the BOSS and HEMI this ending a HEMIs chance of ever winning a NASCAR championship.

@Mike_Collins392 Күн бұрын
The 241 was not " Fire Dome " , it was called " Red Ram " and wasn't available until 1953. The first hemi of the Chrysler Corperation was 1951 331 cubic inch. It was rated at 180 hp at 7.5 :1 compression using 66 octane gasoline. The engine in the thumbnail for this video ( shown in a front engine dragster ) is not a 426 .

Not a big deal but it's Kah-let-ah, NOT Ka-leet-a! This story resurfaced years later at the Indy 500. McLaren/Penske/Mercedes "bent" the rules of pushrod engines. Cams placed so high the pushrods were only 2 inches long. Of course the big-brains banned the engine soon after. That take some cajones sitting behind that engine. Fire suits yes, on board air supply and nito-methane no! Anyone who's had a rubber band for a cam belt knows that frustration.

Got a hand me down 1962 from my mother. I had drove that car every time I came home on leave from the Army. I drove the **** out of it the only problem I ever had was keeping the fan belt on it. Had lot of experiences in that car that got 25 MPG. Had to move to Texas and too many cars it had to go along with a disassembled WWII jeep I had..

Now we know the truth, the Porsche and Volkswagen, which are subsidiaries of each other paid a large amount of money to Ralph Nader to write a hit piece on the Corvair, because it was in direct competition with the sales of beetle and other Volkswagen and Porsche products the truth is both of the Volkswagen beetle and the Corvair because of their rear engine the front suspension is light and is not as responsive so people believed the lie they were told about the Corvair. This is a well documented. But under reported

Yeah, it`s a shame that the Corvair died an untimely death in `69....it was ALMOST perfect, a little more fine-tuning (and water-cooling) would have resolved most issues. It would have been the perfect car to fight off the tidal wave of Japanese imports which were about to invade America. Instead, GM gave us shitboxes like the Vega, Chevette, etc. Too bad....

My Dad bought a used 66 Corvair 2 dr white with a 110 motor around 1972-73 , what a fun and great automobile to drive . Down the road from us was a sharp curve and my brothers and I would see how fast we could take in that car and it screamed around it . I think we all enjoyed driving it sadly when we moved my Dad had bought a new 76 Monte Carlo and he sold the Corvair for $600. - i think we all regretted him selling it . nader was a A-hole i read he had never even drove a car and no doubt the first couple years they had some flaws - name me a new car that didn't .
