Health insurance is a concern for us old guys... I'm 68, have health insurance, and will keep it when moving to The Philippines... I do not have Medicare part B, etc. Since overseas full-time, there is no need... I'm thinking also that keeping a pot of money for emergency medical care is the way to go... Appreciate the tips and suggestions plus personal experiences... All the best, and Happy New Year! 👍😎👍

Also Pacific health is a rip off you still have to pay for anything upfront before they kick in I've heard expats saying they got screwed by them because they claim it's a existing condition or in the fine print some other limits watch what you do like I said cash is king here if that policy cost you almost $5000 a year at the peso rate right now that's close to 300,000 pesos a year

Been here a while if you take any premium from any health insurance quote you get take that money every month put it in the bank cash is king here in the Philippines and a lot of these hospitals will not accept health insurance they want cash
@ThePhilippinesProject
@ThePhilippinesProject 2 күн бұрын
@@timtarr9364 you are right! Cash is King. Pacific Cross unlike a lot of insurers actually here in my city of Iloilo has many many hospital and doctor locations that direct pay and the insurance is accepted as payment. There won’t be any out-of-pocket. That’s what a lot of people are looking for. I also agree with you that if you have a substantial emergency fund for medical expenses, if you did take your premium and add to it each month, that would go a long way to offset any medical expenses that you can and will occur here. Thanks for your comment.

Happy New Year, hope all is well.. like you said you can only speak from your own experience. Like me I have pre-existing conditions which will drive my policy through the roof. I’m just wondering if I decide to retire in the Philippines to have that emergency fund like old dog. Your policy in Canadian is over $6000, that’s a lot of money. If and I say if you don’t have any issues you can put that 6000 a year into an emergency fund. Plus my wife would have to have a policy as well. She also has pre-existing conditions, so now we’re talking north of $12,000 Canadian. $12,000 can take care of a lot of issues. Having medical insurance in the Philippines is definitely not in the cards for me. If I decide to leave Canada and once I’m out for more than six months, I lose the universal healthcare we have here. And if I return with any health issue, I will be paying out-of-pocket for medical care. Once back in Canada, after losing the universal healthcare, I would have to reapply and wait three months. This is why I don’t think full-time retirement in the Philippines is going to be in the books for me, unless I win the lottery. 😂 Our universal healthcare does not cover us when we leave the country even if we’re only out for two weeks. So we have to make sure we have some sort of coverage for travel reasons. Sorry for rambling on, but this is a great topic, stay well and take care.

I thank you for your comments. I neglected to mention that this policy covers both me and my wife. My wife does not have any pre-existing conditions except for pointing with her lips from time to time. Oh and the other one when I know where something is in the house just before I go to get it she moves it and my life is spent searching for everything I need. It is high I think for insurance but it's what is available. I guess we are lucky in the US with medicare starting at age 65 because there are no premiums or very little depending on what you pick. It just keeps on covering you as long as you can make it back to the States.

@ThePhilippinesProject
@ThePhilippinesProject 4 күн бұрын
This is an inpatient major medical policy. It also has some travel aspects to it. If I'm in the US and have an issue it will pay to get me stabilized in the US and I can fly back to the Philippines to take advantage of the policy benefits. Travel insurance is a different product alltogether. It mainly pays stated amounts based on a schedule in your policy benefits page. It's not a solution to or for most medical expenses. That's been my experience anyway. I bought one this year when I went back to the US from Pacific Cross just to be on the safe side.

Rich, I'm just on a Balikbayan Visa. Because I'm married to a Filipina and I travel with her I can avail of this visa. It gives me a period of one year before I have to leave the country. I could go to Singapore or anywhere but I must leave the country and come back for it to be active. It's really just a stamp in my passport that the immigration office puts in there when we clear customs. It's a privilege not a right that the Phillippines allows me to have. I do appreciate it too. The visa does not affect health insurance.

I have bought some generators in the Philippines and I can make some recommendations. I bought the Norton 3500W (only fair fuel economy but inverter so safe for electronics) for family and it lasted 5 years until the recent flood, actually it's still running but they managed to soft seize it after 5 days of running it with too little oil in it. My generator is a Mantra Pro 4200W inverter generator, I even bought an extra for when this one eventually wears out, it will run most of the house, 2 X 1hp mini split aircons (only one aircon is actually needed), lights, tv computers 20cuft refrigerator and the washing machine at the same time. It's an inverter generator so it can be Parallel connected to another inverter generator to increase capacity which would provide power to heat water or cook or other power intensive operations like running the clothes dryer...then you turn the second generator off to save fuel and wear and tear. INGCO makes a similar unit with a 50% larger fuel tank which is nice to have. If you don't need a whole house solution, meaning if you are willing to turn a few power hungry things off, you can get by with a much smaller and more fuel efficient generator, not just to save money but the logistics of having to go get more fuel all the time. If it doesn't hurt to be off turn it off or don't turn it on. The generator will cost more in fuel over time than the generator purchase price, keep that in mind. Greenfield makes a decent generator and I'm told does warranty. Lotus is sold through chain stores and their warranty is good. Promate builds a good generator well known on construction jobsites back when I was working. If you can afford it you can get a suitcase style inverter generator with a permanent magnet alternator that uses less power to generate electricity so they have about 1/3rd smaller more fuel efficient engines and because they are inverter they can produce 60Hz at 3000 RPM rather than a conventional generator that must run at 3600RPMs to produce 60Hz power. Air Cooled Diesel generators aren't notably for fuel efficient for electricity produced than Gasoline generators. If you want a fuel efficient Diesel Generator you need one that is Water Cooled and preferably Turbocharged that will weigh a few tons. The smaller engine satchel style inverter generators will probably pay for themselves over time in fuel savings and the fuel saved means the fuel you have on hand will last longer. I bought the INGCO 2500 and 4000 satchel types to test. I know they will be quieter and know they will have about double the fuel efficiency and they are industrial tools but I have no knowledge of their quality until I test them but INGCO makes some good stuff or I wouldn't have dropped $1100 USD on them. Good luck everyone and I hope you are all safe this typhoon season. I recommend Inverter generators even if they are the open frame type so you don't fry the boards in your inverter appliances. My inductance cooktop won't work without clean power. Any laptop with a power brick is already reducing and rectifying power to about 19V DC so you don't have to worry about clean power for them. Fan motors can handle some jagged electricity for a time with no harm. Enjoy life.
