Thank you for this demo!! SO helpful to hear each position in both Bridge and Neck. I'm going to try one of these Pentatone switches. It checks off multiple tone wish lists items with what seems like one simple set-up. Love this video and will refer to it again!

I gave the 8s Ernie ball a try and all I can wow the feel great 👍 standard tuning. I can express myself more with vibrato and bending. Now I know why a lot of great players play them . EVH played 9-40 back in the day . No wonder he could bend 2 steps bends on the 2nd fret of the G string with index finger .

The '68 CPR is the more versatile amp (I own one) but the Pro Jr IV does things the CPR can't do (I just ordered one up :o) I was able to find excellent used specimens of BOTH for less than the cost of a new '68 CPR, if you don't mind buying a used tube amp. I have no problem with that as I modify and build tube amps for a hobby. YMMV.
@CustomTele52RI2 ай бұрын
Each of these amps has its strengths and is well worth checking out. Not sure the greenback is the best speaker for the '68 Princeton, although it's arguably better than stock. Fat Jimmy C1025, WGS Veteran 10, Ragin' Cajun and Celestion Gold all seem to be more popular choices, for example. I've currently got the Veteran 10, which I like a lot better than the Celestion Ten 30 stock speaker. Fat Jimmy C1025 seems like a modification of the Veteran 10 so I have one on order to see which one I prefer. YMMV.

Holy moly I actually think the juniors break up kicks Princeton ass.
@FuzzBass663 ай бұрын
@youngandrew66 I'm inclined to agree. Those El84s break up in a way that I really, really like. The Jensen speaker helps too, to my ears anyway. I definitely find myself gravitating more towards the Junior for smaller jams when my Bassman is too much, it can definitely fill a very similar sonic space.

You just did go wrong. Without the REST OF THE SET OF jimi hendrix pedals, you're better off just buying a general dunlop wah wah pedal. Unfortunately your JH wah wah doesn't work until you get 2 more JH pedals and 1 dunlop rotovibe pedal. You can have all 3 jimi Hendrix pedals in a row and still none of them do anything jimi Hendrix. The jimi Hendrix brand IS LINKED TO dunlop via the rotovibe pedal. If it can only work in the FULL SET plus 1 more system, then its impossible to get it to work by itself. Your pedal ISN'T CHEAP cause it electrically requires 3 more pedals to get it to activate the wah wah sound.
@FuzzBass663 ай бұрын
@Gma7788 Nope, all these years later I can confirm that I absolutely did NOT go wrong. You know why? Because I paid $50 for it...5 years ago...and I'm still using it regularly. $50 for 5 years and counting, for a wah that performs wonderfully and sounds awesome (with or without other pedals). I don't know where in the world you're located, but around here you'd be hard pressed to find any new wah pedals (Dunlop or otherwise) for under $100. Last I checked $50 is less than $100 so I fail to see how buying a standard Dunlop at the time would have been better in any way. If I were to buy a new wah RIGHT now? Yeah, there's no way I'd be paying the premium just for the Hendrix name. But in my case? Yeah, the Hendrix one was the clear winner. Also, the notion that this pedal somehow "doesn't work" when not combined with other Jimi-style pedals is one of the silliest, most asinine things I've ever heard. Don't misunderstand either, I'm not just babbling without personal experience. I have a germanium Fuzz Face, an older Rotovibe and an Octavio octave fuzz in my pedal stockpile and I've used all three of them in combination with this wah many, many times. It always sounded great, but it in no way NEEDS the other units to function properly. I don't really know who or what planted that idea in your head but it's completely false. I also feel the need to remind you that the topic of this video wasn't "OMG GUYSSSS!!!!! This pedal makes you sound ExAcTlY LiKe JiMi!!!!!!", it was "Hey look, a good sounding wah found for dirt cheap on the used market". If you somehow managed to miss that part then...well I suppose there's not much left to say. Easy Summary/TLDR: •It's a wah. •It functions as a wah should. •It works solo and with other pedals. •It was $50. •$50 is cheap as far as wah pedals go. • It was an amazing deal and is worth getting if you can find one used. The end.

Hi, thanks for your interesting demo. I'd appreciate your opinion on something. I have a '73 tele that I mainly use playing rhythm guitar in a big band. I have been thinking about rewiring my switches because the idea of the blend circuit is very appealing. I generally play a lot of three note Freddie Green chords at a relatively low volume using the neck pickup with the tone rolled off all of the way and I am also interested in the dark circuit. Does the dark circuit sound much different than just rolling the tone off on the neck pickup?
@FuzzBass664 ай бұрын
@jimbonacum8917 The traditional dark circuit used an added resistor along with the capacitor, this was done (so I've been told) to reduce the output in that position. I, not wanting any added signal loss, omitted the resistor with mine. The original also employed a capacitor that was a much higher value than what I used (meaning it sounded more muffled and muted) so mine also sounds different in that respect, more of a vocal "cocked wah" type sound. So yeah, the way that I did it the sound is essentially like the neck pickup with the tone all the way off using a smaller tone capacitor (0.0047uf). If you REALLY wanted to pick it apart I'm sure there's an argument to be made about how it's not the same because the signal isn't getting routed through a tone pot so the resistance isn't quite the same or whatever, but I'd say that's negligible at best.

Ive played for 40 years and i can remember back in the early 80s thinking everyone used 8s lol since then ive used different gauges mostly 9s.but ive just gone back to ernie ball 8 /38s i re set my strat up and its great you do have to have a slightly lighter touch but there great and the vibrato is excellent. Its going to be 8s all the time now, 👍
@satchrules101Ай бұрын
100% bro , I just started using the 8s and they feel so good ! And u are 100 right about the vibrato, when I play heavier strings my vibrato is not nearly as good ,because it’s harder to do for me and , my brain can’t keep up vibrato they way I want when I’m playing fast stuff.

Hi, first video that I have seen of your channel. I was searching this two exact modifications for my epiphone casino ( I couldn't believe someone did the exact same thing I thought). What do I need for the vari-tone and what do I need to say to the luthier to do that? For the out of phase, did you do it with rotating the magnets 180 degrees? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!
@FuzzBass669 ай бұрын
This switch is a standalone unit, it's all you need, no other parts or hardware. It's called the "Pentatone Switch" made by de Lisle Guitar Co. I bought mine on Reverb but they also sell them directly on their website from what I remember. It comes with installation instructions as well, so your luthier shouldn't require anything else, just the switch and the supplied schematic.

Did you Mod this Amp? I got the same but he never sound linke this...!?
@FuzzBass667 ай бұрын
I did, yeah. Nothing insane or complicated, just a simple mod known as the "R19" mod. As the name suggests it involves clipping the R19 resistor and...well, thats it actually haha. Clipping this resistor removes the preset tone stack from the circuit resulting in an increase of volume and over all breakup/gain.
