Do you think processing in c41 makes the colours come out a bit warmer? I honestly kind of like the cooler tones of the two prints you've shown but I'd probably still prefer them a bit warmer, somewhere between that look and shooting with an 85 filter.

I just started shooting film again back in April of this year (2024). I grew up with film but with point and shoot cameras. We usually bought the cheapest film was at the store. I never used black and white film back then. I don't think i had ever heard of most of the film stock that's still around. It was usually some type of Kodak or Fujii film. I didn't even know what ISO was or which one to choose. Now I'm trying many different types of film to see what I like. So far I really like Tmax. I prefer 100 if it's bright enough outside or if I'm shooting wide open. I have shot Tmax 400 once. I like it for the most part. I've had mixed results with FP4 125. I don't like HP5 but I think both times I shot it I forgot to change the ISO on my camera. I need to try it one more time. I also need to do a comparison between Ilfosol 3 and HC-110 with different stock. I've also tried delta 200. It was ok. I was told by a very experienced film photographer that Tmax was better with a yellow filter for the sky. An orange filter may work even better. Delta doesn't really need a filter because it's panchromatic. I have a roll of Rollei 400s retro somewhere I want to try. If I can find it. I like portra 400 also. I like Tmax because of the grain. I've been shooting digital for over 7 years. Tmax looks closer to my digital black and white photos.

Sadly your explanation of different metering methods show a deep down lack of understanding of the science you’re implementing. Read a book, do a course, because much of what you say is fundamentally wrong.

Great stuff. Do you have a lomograflok instant back for 4x5? I've been thinking about getting one to shoot part of an exhibition next year. I just feel like instant film will work well for my vision. I did my 1st exhibition in collaboration with 4 other artists working with calligraphy, video, and abstract installations. It was very intimidating because I'm just a person who takes photos and I'm often very critical of my work. They are all experienced artists with multiple exhibitions under their belts. It did help me learn a lot and to kind of let go a bit and let it develop naturally. I usually don't like anything I shoot until months or years later. This experience forced me to make quick decisions a lot of the time.

Isn't the temperature of the chemical important? What degree should I set it to? Is the capacity of the chemical the same based on the 8x10 print?

Temp def matters. However you can do a lot without have extremely precise temps. No question though, precise temps are best

Gotta say a new 35mm with a warranty is quite exciting. So much overpriced, 30 year old garbage floating around out there for far more than $800. The Rollei look is timeless and adorable.

I tried it recently. I shot it at 400 ISO and pushed it 2 stops. 500 would have been actual 2 stops. Most of the photos came out good except for some light leaks from my shutter lagging on my AE-1. It has that infamous shutter squeal. I thought the grain looked fine. You could see it more in the highlights but I think that's because I was trying to bring the highlights down. I really like Tmax 100 but FP4 is really close with it. I may pick up another roll today and try shooting it at box speed.

Where was this device 3 yearrs ago when I went the copy-stand route?! 😭 As for film scanners versus camera-scanning, having done both I'm 100% onboard with the latter. I've actually had a few instances of "recovering" overexposed slides (wrong ISO setting) by photographting the slide.

@ribsy13 күн бұрын
Kentmere works as good as any other
@outsidestuff528313 күн бұрын
@ribsy to a certain extent yes... But also no. It has a significantly lower silver crystal concentration than most films which allows Harman to make it much cheaper (it often retails at half the price of the next cheapest film here in the UK). In good conditions you're absolutely right that it won't make much difference because you can largely counter the washed out look of it by adjusting your scans in lightroom; but I've found that the second you start losing the light, Kentmere gets very crunchy and there's nothing you can do about it. Some people like that sort of look and that's cool, but it's not to my taste.

unfortunately fuji cloned 669 and 667 film but never clone type 105 and 665 and 55 and 51 film whit reusable negative because cost of this film was double vs 667 and fp 3000 b,cost same of color 669 and fp 100 and pro photographer use polaroid peel apart only for proofing and they not has utility to use negative of type 55 for enlargement when standard kodak tri x and other less expensive solutions was the best for high volume shooters 99% of users of positive/negative film was only curious people that shoot classic peel apart color and high iso black white film and want only to use this film to see the difference

One of the great tiny cameras. There are plenty others with auto focus, so you'll have to think if you want or need a camera with control over the focus. The case is plastic, but it's very strong. The dedicated flash unit is good, but, again, you'll have to decide if you want a camera which can't connect to a larger flash. The wow factor of this camera is big. The same with the Contax and Minox cameras. People see the camera as intriguing. Prices are strong and rising. The XA2 and 3 are alternatives with zone focussing. The range came is special edition colours like red, blue and even white. They are very expensive and suit collectors and folk who see cameras as fashion accessories. Pictures taken with these cameras are amazing and as good as SLR pics. In the day, I knew people who used XAs instead of bulky SLR cameras.

It's surprising you're using a Jupiter 3 35mm lens on a Canon P! It's known for not fitting very well on that camera, plus the image quality of the Jupiter 35mm is poor till About 5.6 and really only acceptable at about F8. I know. I have owned 2 of them Both were poor performers and didnt get much use because of it. That lens is an a very outdated Zeiss design that the russians never improved on. Probably one of the worst Russian lens out there!! I strongly suggest finding something better and that wont be hard!!!! Michael M.

Quick question if you’re able to answer it: I bought a P recently and the rangefinder needs adjustment. Can I still zone focus accurately even if the rangefinder isn’t aligned? In other words, the rangefinder is just for viewfinder focusing, but it has no affect on how the lens actually focuses, correct? I also want to try adjusting the rangefinder myself, but none of the online tutorials really say what the aperture needs to be set to when adjusting while focused to infinity. Also, the Canon LTM lens I have has the infinity lock a bit past infinity symbol. So am I placing the infinity mark on the focus indicator mark, or am I placing the infinity mark on the aperture setting number on the right side, or am I just setting the focus ring on the infinity lock? Most online tutorials don’t really give any details beyond saying that you’re supposed to focus on infinity. Anyway, I’ve been watching your videos and figured you’re probably pretty well versed on using and fiddling with the P at this point.
@ribsy28 күн бұрын
Yea zone focus has to do with the lens only. Camera doesn’t matter as long as it can open and close the shutter
