I grew up there in the 1950s and some of these pictures feel just like that. But sadly "you can't go home again". So pictures do the magic.

Prepare to find that F2 rapidly becoming your favorite 35mm. They are legendary for several reasons! Also, if you ever feel like having it refurbished to it’s original pristine condition, there is a genius in the UK who has the majority of original F2 parts, and the most respected knowledge of the F2.. his name is Sover Wong and he does fantastic work! I’ve had him CLA 3 or 4 of my F2 bodies and - I kid you not - they are like brand new ones now. Thanks for your New Classic film and this channel!

I bought an F2AS with a 55mm F1.2 lens about six months ago. I immediately had it CLA'd - total cost was over £600 (I'm in the UK too). Due to health issues and a physical disability, I've yet to take a single picture with it. It's SO frustrating. Probably shouldn't have bought it really, but I'd lusted after one since the mid 70's when I was in my teens. Such is life....

@@sputumtube oh, I’m sorry to hear of the issues in the way of shooting with the F2AS. When I had Sover Wong CLA mine, it averaged out to around $300 USD per camera. At the time I had second thoughts about spending that much, but after I got the first one back from him I was thoroughly convinced that it was $ well spent.. in my opinion.

I have two F2’s, both are amazing. Had issues with both CDS cells in the metering heads, sent them to Sover Wong. Waited two years! Price is reasonable and his work is amazing. Both work like new now. Have bought and sold countless other film cameras, but these are with me forever!

6:58 Loved my Pentax ES for that. The black paint wore off around the edges, exposing the brass below it. Beautiful looking camera, amazing smooth shutter button and lever (even though mine was squeaking), unfortunately the electronics inside were defective and it suffered from light leaks that I couldn't be bothered to fix at the time

You can also adapt Leica R Glass to the F2. I had an F2 with the de-1 prism and 50mm f/2 Summicron R. Good lawd it produced some beautiful images. Sold it to fund a surgery but I do miss it

WoW mate, now I’ve seen this in photos previously, the front cover of your great book, “30 Stunning Waterfalls of Wales” one of the best to say the least. The book itself is great, with the tips on settings, composition etc a great help, once I get chance to use it as I’ve been in hospital since last Sunday and only got out around 5pm yesterday, with orders to rest instead of running out with my camera after a couple of days from my Wife. Wouldn’t mind, I was in Wales the previous weekend too but the only waterfall we visited, wasn’t a scheduled stop. We were on hour way to Llyn Ogwen when I spotted Swallow Falls as we passed by, I told my wife to stop and turn around, tried some shots but really can’t say I’m too happy with the compositions got from the viewing platforms and it’s true, after the heavy rain we’d had there really can be “Too Much Water”.

If it’s an AS it probably has a DP-12 prism/meter. Also, I agree 100% about the 85mm f/2, or.. even better, the 85mm f/1.8. And the 105mm f/2.5. Any old Nikkor glass - with a few exceptions - will be awesome.

As I recall, the Nikon Fs of that era got their reputation in war zones. And Nikon went from "consumer grade" to "pro grade" when those photographers came home and told the story. Somewhere ?? there's a picture of someone's ?? Nikon F that literally took a bullet !! and kept on making pictures. Been too long for me to recall names.

You're going to love the Nikon F2. Its a full system, professional camera. Change out finders, focusing screens, add a motor drive. Built like a tank, 1500 plus parts. I would consider it on par with the Canon F-1 NEW with the AE finder. The F2's are a bargain now, a fraction of their original price. As to the Leica R3, these were made in collaboration with Minolta as were some of the lenses. The problem with the R3 is you are locked into Leica glass which is extremely expensive. Look at the Minolta XD11, X7, XE7. They share many features with the R3 but Minolta camera bodies and lenses are far cheaper. Besides, you can stock up on Nikon glass for the F2. Great lenses at great prices these days. If you do buy an R3, you do have the option of using Tamron Adaptall 2 lenses with a Leica R adapter. They make 17mm to super-telephoto lenses in the Adaptall 2 mount. Loved the tour of Coney Island, I've never been.

This F2A is not a camera. It's a precision mechanism made by Nikon from 1976 to 1980. i've a mint one that wento to CLA when I bought it, in 2003 and even toda it's perfectly tuned! The 1 sec is 1 sec. Tha says it all. I've another F2 with an eye level finder whis is a joy to use. A bit larger than an FM but much more rugged. This one seems to have been a reporter camera, is was abused, many brass marks, but spedds are perfect! LOVE this cameras since I first saw one in 1975. But I just came to buy mine in 2003, after having a Canon T90, which was a great camera BUT electronic. Had to change its shutter two times in two yerars. Even the T60 I picked as a backup only shot when it wanted... Ran away from electronic cameras to old faithful mechanicals - 2 Nikon F2 from the late 1970s. Start using yours an I'm sure you'll love it. Realiable, solid, pro feel, a real tank. And their weight make all the difference to me, I don't like too light cameras, I find them unstable. Enjoy! One more thing: great blue brazilian shirt :)

Excellent purchase. I'm not jealous at all . . . 😂 It should have F2 in tiny letters before the serial number on top. In that era they only made one camera at a time (the cheaper ones were branded Nikkormat) so it presumably wasn't considered necessarily to make the model conspicuous. With the F the first 2 digits are the year of manufacture, but I'm not sure this applies to the F2.

Hey Ribsy, if you get a Leica R camera those lenses are one of only 2 lens families that you can adapt to F mount. R lenses need to have body adaptions (no adaptor you gotta redo the mount ring) to mount them to the F mount, but the results are phenomenal. F2 is a superb camera with Leica tier quality. If cared for they take a beating, you'll love it!
