Tommy being so polite to say the guy is a homosexual without saying it direct at 1:12 is so funny Tommy "the *narrow* path. The *straight Christian* path....not to his taste" Queen - visibly confused Tommy "Well here's these 3 women.... These are just the natural ones"

It's funny that I hated him in the first few episodes when he's purely a foil to Townsend, having very little personality outside of his commitment to protocol. Very quickly, though, I started to admire his character for the same reason I hated him at first: he's essentially the living embodiment of duty. Now he's one of my favorites.

Lord Snowden(Anthony Armstrong-Jones) was a talented photographer and maker of films BUT he was also a man whose immorality, ruthless social climbing and hatred of his mother as well as all women damaged the lives of everyone that he touched especially his wife Princess Margaret and his two children. By contrast, Tommy Lascelles strove to protect the monarchy and the nation..in this he succeeded and in time, his warning about Lord Snowden proved to be correct!

This clip is cut off about 2 minutes early, leaving off one of the most important segments of the whole scene: Everything from Elizabeth's second "What?" to the moment she sobs in front of the window. I mean, okay, thanks for posting it, and it has 90% of Tommy's best stuff included...but, really: Would you provide a JPEG of the Mona Lisa, with the segment between her nose and her chin completely excised?

Sir Alan Frederick "Tommy" Lascelles was of a peculiar British social class: close to being an aristocrat but not actually one. His paternal grandfather was the 4th Earl of Harewood and his first cousin, the 6th Earl, married George VI's sister and thus was uncle by marriage to Elizabeth II. Tommy in contrast was a commoner, an upper class one, but still a commoner. I don't know what the real Tommy was like but those types (the ones Princess Diana described as the "men in grey") are often the ones most fanatical about maintaining orthodoxy within the Royal system.

I so wish Lascelles would have been around for Charles and Diana and the 3rd member of the marriage, Camilla. And just imagine what he'd have done the first 2 seconds he laid eyes on magen 🤣🤣🤣 Harry would never have known what hit him and his relationship.

Yes, of course... there were the homosexual dalliances. So typical for British aristocracy. That practice continues in tony Wasp communities all over America. In our city that is a poorly kept secret.

What I wonder is: Was Margaret told any of this? This incident in "The Crown" reminds me of Harry and Meghan. M16 must have done a background check on Meghan. If so were HMTQ? Prince Philip? Prince Charles? Harry? Told of her real past? Told about her dysfunctional family? Even Harry's friends knew some things about her, in particular Tom “Skippy” Inskip.
