Nice presentation! 1) OCF is two-poles - yes? So technically not an end-fed... ? 2) end-fed zeps have been around since, um, their namesake zeppelins, quite pre-1960s? 3) why don't j-poles have the required feedpoint choke?

What if you removed the tip and measured what the voltage was across just the terminals. I'm going to have to do this.😊

Thank you for this information. If I may be so bold, next time you make a video, PLEASE have someone else hold the camera for you. This was sort of like reading a Chinese radio user manual in "Chinglish".

The Canadian “news” article about a FCC “repeater tax” is a hoax or satire. I verified this by emailing Rick Roderick K5UR (ARRL President) who was purportedly quoted in the article and he stated it was false. An edit or a correction may be in order as this was presented as fact during this video. The other articles on the VE7NFR site are also intended as satire - “AMSAT is making a proposal at the upcoming “United Nations Climate Change Conference on Global Warming” for the launch of 500,000 Low Earth Orbit Satellites (LEOs)”, etc.

Ignoring the obvious about the story about a repeater tax. It’s from a Canadian ham and radio group talking about the United States FCC. That also makes it suspicious almost immediately.

Jetstream makes R&L's power supplies. They at R&L told me that Jetstream just rebrands them with R&L's logo on them. But here is the down fall of these power supplies....If you break off one of the post in the back of the RLPS30M which is R&L's version of the Jetstream's 30 amp supply, there is NO replacement parts. I called R&L and who ever the guy that answered the phone said there isn't ANY parts that you can order for these supplies. I told him I needed to get the negative post that the black cap screws onto. He just said real bluntly NOPE CAN'T HELP YOU!. You will just have to order a new one he said. The power supply worked flawless and no problems. I was trying to loosen the black negative cap on the back and it just snapped off. All I need is the post and it will be back working. But R&L acted like they didn't give a flying s***!. He just wanted me to buy a new power supply from them which I refuse to do since they were rude as hell. He said he didn't know how to get in touch with the company that makes Jetstream supplies. Wont ever buy anything from them anymore!

Good morning, I have a question to ask you that perhaps is not entirely relevant to your knowledge. However, I am sure that with your enormous knowledge you will be able to give us excellent advice. Last summer, my son and I accidentally threw a balloon into the sea and gradually saw it move away towards the horizon. From that moment the curiosity became immense. If we could monitor that balloon in real time we would always know exactly where it was. It would all have been extremely fascinating. Now this is exactly what we ask you, if my son and I wanted to throw a soccer ball into the sea and monitor it via a smartphone or a PC, what tools should we use? Thank you
@w5kub
@w5kub 6 ай бұрын
yes it can be done. in fact our community is already doing it but not with a ball. We use a long 4 or 6 inch pvc pipe. put parts inside, seal it water tight and put it in the ocean. We have an antenna that sticks above the floating pipe. the pipe floats vertically and in these cases carry a bunch of 6 batteries. We use the same tracker that we use for our balloons. We use the same on line tracking program built for ham radio and we get reports as it moves across the ocean. you need a ham radio license. here is an article about the ham radio bouy. www.arrl.org/news/high-school-marine-buoy-transmitter-now-active-on-20-meter-wspr

Hello did you ever get this working properly with the duplexer I have had no luck with any distance
@kathymedlin1569
@kathymedlin1569 7 ай бұрын
is your duplexer tuned to the two exact frequencies? also it is easy to make a mistake and not match the correct port to the correct tx or rec connections. when you say distance, i guess you are talking about range. you have to have height. if your trying to operate at 20-30 ft in antenna height you wont get but a couple miles. not worth doing it. also found that these radios are not very sensitive.

Have you been able to find a COS and PPT so this can run as a standard receiver and transmitter out of repeater mode and interface with a PI? It can be done by rf but direct connection is better. Another question is does it have a TOT? And does it get hot are the heat sinks large enough?
@w5kub
@w5kub 8 ай бұрын
We cancelled our project. These radios were not suited very well for repeater. There is no cos. Also you can not put audio into the mic connection. The audio in to the radio is a digital signal. All the audio is converted inside the microphone then sent to the radio in digital mode via the mic jack. The connection cable (tip, ring, ring) to make them a repeater is not audio and ptt. again it uses some from of digital information. In testing the radios, after about 40 seconds of transmission, the power started dropping fast and to the point where they stopped transmitting. You are better off using a conventionals radios where you can pull off cos and also have ptt and audio input. You can not easily find any where to connect an IDer since all is digital. You could problaby connect an IDer in to the front of the mic.

I just started studying for my amateur radio basic qualification exam in Canada at the start of April, and started listening to all sorts of ham stuff on Spotify when I stumbled across this. Brett's song at 16:15 is a nice treat! I caught myself whistling the tune today at work haha. This was a good first episode of this radio show to stumble across. Where can I hear all of Brett's songs?
@w5kub

Brett has only 3 songs so far and they are on our channel. Did you know you can watch the live video show every Tues night at 9 PM Eastern on w5kub.com we also have a 2 hour audio show on shortwave radio each week on 7490 WBCQ.
