When creating the break for the facia boards you indicated you cut one end of the decking at a 45 degree and showed how you then cut a second 45 degree piece and glued/screwed it together, but you didn't explain the purpose of the 15 degree angle on the other end (assuming that is what is butted up against the outside deck board...could you explain?
@DIYDeclassified2 ай бұрын
@@JeffBritten The Butyl tape I used to cover the top of the boards rounded over the ends. I needed the 15degree angle cut off so it would sit flush, and the tape wasn’t pushing the fascia forward at the top.

I have done a few of these. I really think that when I use Manufactured board, that it is so light that you should only use your nail gun because the glue will tear off your sheet rock if you ever change your mind, costing you potential thousands. The MDF board is only about a dollar a foot at Home Depot and its already white. But I hate taping and prepping so I just paint things in my garage first. Then I am only painting a few touch ups. For a chic, I did this by myself and loved it.

i am going to work with a similar case except that i don't have the clearance like you do between the floor of the patio and the bottom of the door. would building a floating deck as an extension of the patio be too bad of an idea? where patio ends, the deck starts.

Yes, any building store has what you need. Or you can build anchoring spaces with your treated wood.

You don't need the joist hangers on the platform since the joists are supported by the beam

@paulrhodes30942 ай бұрын
Absolutely no reason for Joyce hangers on the rim joist. It is not supporting anything. The weight of the joist is supported on the beam. The rim joist or what you called. The header joist is doing nothing but serving as a fascia and blocking.

I got excited because I saw you already had a backsplash installed, so I figured you were going to give advice on how to do this without tearing down your backsplash (which is exactly my situation)…. only to realize you filmed this before you installed your backsplash. 😭

Hi, thank you for this. I'm doing something similar with a freestanding landing soon and can't find much out there on this topic so this video was very helpful. May I ask what dimensions you used for stair width and how far apart the posts are? I know the landing is 5x4 ft as you mentioned which will be similar to mine, but I can't figure out where I should lay the posts. It looks like your box frame is a little cantilevered off the beam?

What shape borders are those? T’s or L’s? Struggling to determine how you installed those.
@DIYDeclassified3 ай бұрын
@@baileybingham9405 They were “L” shaped. Honestly, they were the hardest part for me to get on there. The top was fine, but when I put them on the sides, gravity was making it very hard.

Correct me if I'm wrong but are you supposed to break all rim joists on a pier or doubled up joist? You installed the double rim joist on the front that hangs over supported by joists supported by a beam.

You cut so deep into that top stringer to place it inside the deck. Are you not worried about it? I am presently in the process of building deck stairs, but I think I'll still surface mount it. Only problem is I'll have to add another ledger piece under the rim band as the stringers fall short. That might look bad. Lots of things to consider on these deck builds...

A good trick for looks is to paint or run more tape to cover the rim joist , then it’s black between the gaps instead of that bright wood colour . Great job . My frame is built , planing tomorrow , tape the next day and ready for decking ,

@@Paul-q3m7k thank you. I ended up climbing around after it was built and stained them all. You are right, that wood almost seemed brighter once I put boards down.
