I've hiked the Henry's Fork Trailhead over a dozen times. I was looking on the map and saw both Dahlgreen Ridge Trail and Big Meadow Trail. I thought about trying one of these trails on my next hike to Henry's Fork Basin. (Since Covid, Henry's Fork Trailhead has become extremely busy and difficult to find parking. I also prefer the solitude). Thanks for the video, now I know what to expect.

So, in order to get here you take the Middle Fork Trail (Tokewanna Peak Trail) and at the crossing, head East?
@SouEuIAm Жыл бұрын
This has become one of my favorite hikes. It's a trail that hardly anyone hikes. The trail gets hard to follow several miles in, and I find myself bushwhacking for a while until I get to the meadow just before the ascent to Bob's Lake. From there the trail is easier to follow. I never dared to drive up that dirt road. I always park in the grassy area around 20:15 in your video and I hike in from there.
@Jway33 Жыл бұрын
If you continued to hike to tokewanna from this way how long would it take or how many miles?
@SouEuIAm Жыл бұрын
Look how empty that parking area is. Nowadays, even at the beginning of June, it would be completely packed.

So glad to have stumbled across this video. Back in the mid 80's as a boy scout we made this trek up below squaw pass for a basecamp, and then, did a few excursions over to red castle etc. over the next week. I think about this trip quite often and it was almost surreal to see some of the same scenery again. I am happy to say that my recollection of it was pretty spot on as compared to your video. Thank you SO much, this has just make my day!

From Painters Basin that’s the exact route we have planned for this year. I’ve been all over the Uintas but have not done the UHT. It was cool to see Chain Lakes and Atwood. Almost same day, exact camp locations too, so it was a nice preview. Strong work! Thanks for taking us along. 🙏

@matt2hansen3 жыл бұрын
Hi sir! Just found you videos while searching hikes for highline. I am in process of watching all your uintah hikes. Some I've done others I will be soon. This one in particular grab my attention. My wife & I drove to the end of this road where all the barb wire rolls are stacked last year during archery elk hunt. I had no idea there was a hiking trail up that drainage. It was so beautiful and majestic. On your way out when u passed those cabins, really got my attention as my dad & I have done alot of research into the tie hackers on the north slope. I will definitely have to go explore them. I'm going to share these with my dad as he cannot physically hike the trails any longer. If you don't mind me asking how young are you? Your a beast!!!

Hi Perry, I don't have a GPS only map and compass, but I'm not savy with the electronic technology. I'm worried about navigating the Uinta Trail, the whole 100 miles starting in Vernal. I need some advice from a veteran, it the trail Vernal is obvious enough with a map and compass or should I invest in a GPS and find some way points to check. I am not sure where to find accurate way points for this trek? thanks, Doyle
@perrytaylor63884 жыл бұрын
Doyle Smith I assume you have a mobile phone? If so I’d recommend an app like GaiaGps to use for navigation . You can use it in airplane mode which uses very little battery. The eastern end can be a bit tricky but by about Leidy Peak you should be okay with a map and compass. I personally wouldn’t do the eastern end without some kind of GPS-enabled device.

I enjoyed the vistas from the high points. You can see for such a long way. The elk in the water were awesome not to mention the reflections on the lakes in the morning. I hiked Mt. Timpanogos in the mid- to late-1970s. It was November. I was in a group of four or five, which was part of a much larger group of singles from my church in Salt Lake City. We drove around the back side of Timp and pulled into a campsite. I don't remember what it was called. It was about half-way up the mountain elevation wise, if I remember correctly. We left early in the morning and climbed up the back side and it took us about six hours. The views were spectacular. Unfortunately, many years later, all my photos were destroyed in a basement flood. Funny, though, that I don't remember the top looking like when you where there. When we got to the top, it started lightly snowing, the first of the year. If you would like to read my adventure, you can find it here: oddsandendthoughts.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/peril-atop-mount-timpanogas-an-adventure-to-last-a-lifetime/ Apparently, I couldn't spell Timpanogos at the time I wrote this. LOL If you decide to read it, I hope you enjoy it.

Stay safe and hope you get out on the trail again soon.

Thank you for the kind words. Actually the highway into the area typically is not open until June at the very earliest. You would have to hike about 6.5 miles from where the road is gated just to get to the trail head.
