I appreciate this sentiment and I would like to bring in an expanded view. What comes off as Black or White is the idea that those who are in the world and seem to "have it all" are underlyingly depressed, while those who are Christian and may struggle are underlyingly joyful. There are Christians that are depressed because of the toxicity of their church, spiritually/religiously abused, or have a bad relationship with God. Some of them don't understand God properly and their view of Him is warped by the toxicity or abuse they experienced. That to me is an example of a Christian not having that underlying "unspeakable joy". Also, there are plenty of Christians today that wouldn't be laughing or smiling in the face of their execution, those who did were an anomaly from previous times. And I'd lastly like to pitch that there are some people of the world that are just happy. Being of the world or rich doesn't automatically equate to you being depressed inside. There are some non believers that are more happier/joyful than Christians, especially those who are scrupulous, overly religious or overly spiritual(remember the pharisees, they still exist around us today!)
