I'm sure that with hard work, my study guides, and your videos I'll do well. I know you helped me with the ABO, because it was with your videos that I finally started to understand vertex distance!

Would it ever be appropriate to send a pt home with a gp lens empirically fit without checking the lenses with a slit lamp and nafl, .
@nclecontactlenstrainingАй бұрын
No lol Even if the data suggests a lens would be a perfect fit, no two eyes are exactly the same so it’s always best practice to check the fit to make sure it’s not tight, flat etc… on the cornea. Thanks so much for watching 📺

I have a question about multiplying the change in vertix dist and -10. It should be -1.12. The answer would then be positive and that isn't right. So what is the explanation here? I saw someone else had mentioned this, but I did not see an answer!
@samanthabentz95453 ай бұрын
I believe I figured it out! He explains that we use + VD because we are moving closer to the eye, but viewing the VD as the patient, we are moving in a minus direction. I think he just switched the signs at the beginning filling out the formula, if that makes sense.
@yuhonglin97663 ай бұрын
how did you get 8.12 at 90?

Hi Sam, in the last problem you go over, I got lost as to why the cylinder (- 0.75) and 180 axis get canceled out. I know you indicate we'd go with a gas perm, but I didn't understand the reason why.
@nclecontactlenstraining4 ай бұрын
Hey! I can’t believe you made me watch myself 🤮 lol You definitely COULD fit a soft lens for this patient. For this example I am assuming that your only options are RGP lenses. Mainly it’s focused on determining the power of a RGP lens. On the test you won’t encounter an appropriate soft lens answer and an appropriate RGP lens answer. I talk fast over the point but I say something like “assume our answers are all RGP lenses.” So GREAT QUESTION - I’m just only focusing on GP though!

In my book i have RX +3.75 +0.50x90 Ks- 46.75/47.25 VD 8MM when I do it im either minus 0.25 or plus 0.25 /0.75 the answer in the book says ON K is +4.50 STEEPER is +4.00 and FLATTER is +5.00---- I transposed+VD (shouldn't we always?) and its not coming out to the answers in the book. I was able to figure out other questions but this one is hanging me up and I dont know what im doing wrong. Can you please help me see my error?!
@nclecontactlenstraining6 ай бұрын
Ok so let’s look at this: +3.75 +0.50 x 090 First step is to transpose: +4.25 -0.50 x 180 You always work in MINUS CYLINDER Get rid of the astigmatism component in the Rx for GP/scleral lenses because it’s insignificant and can be cared for by the lens (masked). So, we are dealing with a +4.25 sphere Rx BEFORE compensating for vertex distance. ALL CONTACT LENSES THAT ARE VERTEX DISTANCED BECOME MORE PLUS/LESS MINUS WHEN GOING FROM REFRACTED VD TO A CONTACT LENS Rx. That is why we are adding +0.25 to the +4.25 minus cyl Rx for ON K = +4.50 After that just remember SAM/FAP Steeper add minus and flatter add plus Please let me know if I his helps 😊
