Hey hon, yep I have some videos on chiloschista. 😊 they like alot of water in summer. I soak twice a week. Its about once a week in winter. Mine are mounted. I have several. Yea isnt it so hard to grasp wet but draining. 😂 Steven Van Kampen-Lewis just recently did videos on his trip to Brazil! He showed ridiculous laelia's in situ and 😱 I was shocked! I told him I think I was spoiling mine compared to how they looked in the wild! Its crazy! I really suggest you go look! Your right on what to pot them in! 😂 your gonna want to change it! 😂😂

My Leptotes bicolor is potted as well, I really try not to keep plants mounted. 07:54 is that a cat under the table?! And I killed you Epidendrum porpax and the Cologne fimbriata (after it even flowered) So upsetting that it's mainly the fail-ew-nope-sis that made it... Weeds are always so hard to get rid of. Hope you have a good move!!!

Beautiful blooms as always. Just a question though...I was watching along happily, while crocheting, and suddenly the show was over. Is this a time of year when you have less blooms in general or is it due to the fact that you've been away so much and your plants are showing their displeasure?
@PetalsSepalsandSpines5 күн бұрын
Good point, we do have less flowers this time of year, but to be honest we haven't had much time for the orchids or for filming, so there's a bunch i didn't get to film too. You crochet, that's awesome! i never got into it, since i'm left handed no one could manage to teach me as a child! but i do pick up knitting and crosstitch now and then.

Barkgate is real and it will eat all of us up. It looks very similar to the one I got from Ecuagenera Europe/Germany. Love that as well. Also love a nice experiment - not like I have enough of those running at work. How have you been? How are your other Cattleyas? We must know. Did you see that your Dendrobium Jan Orinstein (spelling?) flowered this early spring?
@PetalsSepalsandSpines5 күн бұрын
i didn't see it, we've barely had time for anything lately. Life has been chaotic, we spent most of the year away visiting family, and now we're moving cause where we are isn't great for Jay's health. So the orchids have been taking a hit, poor things. We did this experiment and then left and i havent even looked at them properly since. not very scientific. I hope things are great there in Swizerland!

Would a substrate like this work for jewel orchids?
@PetalsSepalsandSpines14 күн бұрын
I am in no way an expert with jewel orchids, but even though some people grow them in soil, i would still add something to make the mix more aerated, some perlite or orchid bark. Or skip the peat mix and just do a sphagnum heavy orchid mix.

14:38 The metal containers I was using this summer started to get rust so I had to get rid of them. They were light weight though and very inexpensive. Maybe it was the high humidity of having them in an enclosed porch? 🤔 Nice to know that orchids can bloom without too much attention. ☺️👍 22:08 I have a mounted Gastrochilus japonicus. It bloomed six months after I bought it and then it finally started attaching to the mount. Not sure if I would have accepted the challenge of watering so many plants. 😟 27:45 I recently purchased two Psychopsis Mendenhalls. One of the first ones had a snail that chopped down the newest leaf but I was able to exchange it. No snails or other pests since. I'm just waiting for new roots until I can repot them together.
@PetalsSepalsandSpines15 күн бұрын
Our metal containers dont seem to rust so far, but we'll see when we move to a more humid area. I see what you mean, we are paying the lady that came, she usually works in house cleaning, so she likes the change of pace in watering the plants. Good luck with your psychopsis, im sure you'll see how rewarding they are! Thank you so much for watching.

Thank you for involving us in the assessment of your orchid collection. I think it's important that we see the good and the bad of orchid growing indoors. It's difficult to come back from a long break away to some dead or suffering plants, but can't be avoided. The phals seem to have survived well and I'm sure a lot of the others will bounce back. It's sad to lose a few, but that's life. Good luck with the recovery journey, I look forward to seeing whatever you have the time to film.

You're scaring me now because I was asked to have a look at a couple of phals for a friend and both were jammed into pots of moss so tightly they were actually waterlogged. I pulled the largest out and ended up with a mountain of moss. I have yet to repot it and am really dreading it. Tomorrow I'll tackle it and I feel that in bark there might be less chance of it being drowned. Thanks for sharing this interesting repot. There's always something we can learn from this type of video.
