could have been worse, but i was hoping to make a very simple video, very "they go outside for x months, and there, flowers happen!", but life and the weather had other hopes!

Nice update. Good to know that chysis likes a cooler, drier period. Just a quick side note, I placed my Neofinetia closer to the growlight, like you suggested, and now it has a spike that should bloom soon! Thanks!😊

Thanks for this information on Winter rest and the update. It’s come at a good time because we are just going into winter and for the first time since starting to grow some of my orchids indoors, I’m going to put my Phals outside, on the south side under a patio roof.where there will be no direct sun and protected from rain. I already have some soft cane dens outside under a north facing patio with protection from direct northern sun. I will experiment with my only two latouria type dens left from a half dozen I started with. Apparently they also need a winter west with little or no water or fertiliser. It will be interesting to see the end result. The most difficult things is finding space where the plants are protected from the elements as well as grasshoppers and other chewing insects, not to mention animals that find orchids to be a tasty treat.

that's the main reason we dont have more orchids outside, it's hard to keep them protected from the elements AND pests. but for a winter rest, it is the only way, other than air conditioning a room just for a few of them.
