What happened to the obx overview video? I've personally used both and if you aren't going for 1000hp OBX works. You are right about the burs and imperfections but those can be cleaned up. Personally I replaced the bolts for peace of mind and the OBX has lasted quite a while in one of my low budget builds.

Big fan.... fellow Saab racer here... 😁 I have a question for you too. I race a B235 T7 Engine in a Saab 9-5. I use the T5 (9000) Head Gasket because these B235 have a spot that can leak oil. SAAB themselves told their mechanics to put a new MLS gasket and to use some RTV in that spot to "fix" that problem. Me and my brother started to use the T5 head gasket as it is a "tad" more thicker and when compressed torking the head bolts it fixes the issue. Using your gasket, do I have to fill the problem with RTV in that spot as factory recomended? Because as your gasket dont "crush" and is reusable, I think that issue will appear again. Am I right to think that way? 2nd Question - Can I ask you why the use of RTV and not a Anaerobic Sealant? Because the first will harden and may clog the oil pickup and the Anaerobic in contact with the air will never harden. If I abuse it and fall into the oil, will desintegrate. I know some may like more on for the other, I´m just curious about your choice. Thanks for your videos man! Keep the Saab Racing!!
@RHBTurbochargers9 күн бұрын
Not sure which spot you are describing that can leak oil on a T7 engine. RTV adheres nicely and flexes with expansion and vibration so it's very durable long term. You would really need to be careless with it to use enough to clog the oil pickup. I use anaerobic sealant on nearly everything else but haven't tested it with the VFR gasket (yet). My theory has been that the anaerobic might not be able to handle the vibration and expansion of the head because it's very hard when its dry. Happy to be proven wrong though.

Thanks for teaching me. Can you do a video on the fire rings themselves? There isn't too much info on KZbin. I have seen a few of people using a tool for cutting them.
@RHBTurbochargers9 күн бұрын
The tool you're probably thinking of is the one to cut receiving grooves in the block or head. VFR gasket fire rings are flat on one side and have ridges on the other side that cut into the head once torqued so that tool is not necessary.

For anyone curious about them I ran one on my b234r and am now running the exact same one on my b204, after installation I did have a coolant leak on the front right side of my cylinder head but Re torquing the bolts fixed it, have never had coolant reach the combustion chambers either. I’m hard on my car too, always in boost. Just read the installation instructions and you should be good, and worst case even with a small coolant leak you can keep driving it no problem, I did, just had to add some coolant when needed. 😂

Hi there, I have a 1981 Saab 900 GLs with a 4 speed manual gearbox. The engine on your 93 Saab looks like the H engine on the classic 900. I also own a 1990 Saab 900 Aero or so called SPG in N. America which is a 5 speed manual, turbo charged car with the 1985cc H engine. It is extraordinary to me that you are using this engine in a race car! I always presumed that racing cars should be rear wheel drive, I have to say you are super innovative and creative!

As you sure know much more you develop the car, improve the performance and have the car by the hand in the track more you are in the limit of the gearbox. A few time ago I read a post of Snail Barton (Florida) in that explain as they do for reinforce the oem gearbox, if this can help you.
@93Viggen232 ай бұрын
That dude just copied everyone and steals their info and claims it as his own. The original person to really strengthen those is b3designs, he CNC machines the gear case housings to accept a billet pinion brace, does a steel insert for the pinion bearing race and he does a crush sleeve delete that’s shimmed for adjustment. He offered a few other things as well. But everyone just stole his tech and some people even have the audacity to claim it as their own ideas…. Been using his parts for over 10 years now. Way before that snail dude was even in business.
@vank42052 ай бұрын
That I didn't know it. I assumed that he didn't develop the solution, only applied it. I will search info about B3design. Thanks by the info.

Clogged beacause og long oil change intervals. Bad lubrication will make more resistance to camshaft than 2 Nm an lenghten the chains and burning rod bearings plus camrods.
@ImperatorCaesar222 ай бұрын
This makes sense. Plus when you are reducing back pressure right at the exhaust port, you are reducing the amount of power the engine loses by having to push the exhaust from the cylinder. People think turbos are free power, but they’re not (besides small turbos which are designed for fuel economy). The exhaust stroke is using power to push out the exhaust. So having these longer headers increases scavenging as you mentioned which reduces back pressure which reduces the energy used on the exhaust stroke
@ImperatorCaesar222 ай бұрын
You could look at air injection into the exhaust, which burns unspent fuel and boosts the scavenging effect and spools the turbo faster. That’s what turbo anti lag is
