What do you use for a cleaner? When cleaning old blocks

If you don't mind me asking, you said you have your own way of dealing with clearances when you put the main studs in, what exactly do you do to make sure it works and the bearings don't get spun? I'm putting forged pistons in my 9-5 and I'm gonna put ARP main studs along with head studs in it but I'm doing the work with the engine in the car out of necessity so i can't get any gauges in there to check the clearances. Im sure it's gonna tighten up the clearences and i dont want to have to take it back apart. The car was running fine when I started the work so should I leave the main studs out and just re-torque the old ones or leave them as they are and just put in the pistons? It's gonna be my daily, I'm building another one that's my garage queen and I'm gonna full send, but this one I'm only using a 19t turbo and aiming for 330-350 horsepower. If I don't need to put them in and I can use them on the other engine that would be great. Thanks for sharing this with us, love the content!

I would leave out the ARP main studs if you have no way to measure clearances. The extra clamping force can make the mains go from 0.001" to zero clearance. Arp main studs aren't necessary for less than 500hp imo. My way of dealing with the clearance change is swapping out bearings, caps, or resizing the crank. If it measured bad enough I'd have no choice to get it line honed or improvise to get a particular clearance right. I got lucky on this engine. Thanks for watching

@@RHBTurbochargers Thanks for answering. Should I re-torque the existing studs or leave them as is?

@@daryljoseph I would leave them unless you want have a peek at the bearings

nice video man! well explained, a question if i may whats the reason for installing an restrict on the block that feeds the head with oil? does it help with bottom end oil pressure? its a first to hear for me
@RHBTurbochargers Жыл бұрын
When you block the balance shaft oil supply the extra oil pressure floods the head a bit more than what's necessary

@@RHBTurbochargers oh wow did not know that, when shes opened again i will surely put an restrictor on that

You do anything to the ports to increase flow. I find the 204 head to be a little restrictive.

Do I need to modify something to use the pinto main studs? Since they are cheaper than arp saab studs, I would prefer them.
@RHBTurbochargers Жыл бұрын
No need to modify anything
