To me, veganism is about empathy for all beings, including humans. Your circumstances may have made it easy for you to be vegan, but it's not easy for everyone. Did you not notice, in the film, how much bullying Tesla was subjected to by her parents, brother, cousin, and everyone in her extended family when she went to Honduras? Did you not notice how negative her boyfriend was about veganism? Do you think that if you had come from such a heavily meat-eating culture and were surrounded by people who were constantly attacking your choices, you would have been able to withstand it? You will never know the answer. I, for one, am proud of how much Tesla has been able to accomplish. She may not be vegan, but she and her husband, on whom she has clearly had a huge influence, have saved many animals compared to the people I see around me, who fill their bodies with animal flesh and secretions every single day.

H. G. I came from a European family who were such big meat eaters! Food was everything to them because they escaped world war 2. I am first generation Canadian and every time I ate, my parents would call me stupid, that I wasn’t all right in the head, they would lie to me that something wasn’t meat and put it in my mouth and I would run to the bathroom to spit it out. My parents and their friends told me that I must have something wrong with me ever since I was a young child. I also came from such a poor family and it wasn’t always easy. I started working at the age of six washing dishes in a pizzeria because my mother said she couldn’t afford buying me vegan foods. In high school I had 14 part-time jobs and throughout my years in university which was approximately 12 I always had 3 to 4 part-time jobs on the go at the same time. My father was an aggressive and abusive alcoholic so I heard 1 million times a day how I was no good, how I was stupid and that only stupid people don’t eat meat. I have no one in my family that is alive now, as they have all died of cardiovascular events and Alzheimer’s but I have forgiven them because I think that’s what our maker wants...
