Make a NEW movie to replace and bury for good, the mess they made of the first one! We DESERVE a blockbuster, much better movie with characters TRUE TO the 1960s series!!

I understand. That's why I positioned the video to be an automated test flight. It was beyond my capabilities at the time to add any characters. 14 years later software has changed, of course. I'm toying with the idea to re-create the Jupiter 2 in Unreal Engine. That would be something. :)

@@PastaMaster115 Thanks! I'd love to see what you come up with. I originally modeled and animated these older videos in 3ds Max and edited them in After Effects. I've since transitioned to Cinema 4D with the Octane render engine and edit in DaVinci Resolve. I use Cinema 4D only because that is what I use on a daily basis at work. Once I retire I will probably switch to Blender. :)

I’ve always thought Jupiter 2 was the coolest sci-fi spacecraft, with the Space 1999 Eagle a close 2nd. The Lost In Space series first season in black and white was the best. When they went color it just got stupid.

Very creative and well-done tech. I assume the human crew is in hibernation ? The only thing is, all this work in honor of an Irwin Allen TV series ? As time went on and the budget became a trickle, they always descended into silly cheesiness. I remember how refreshing and perspective-giving watching the pilot episodes were after a season or two of regular episodes had aired. The pilots had better matte painting backgrounds, a cast of dozens and a sense of the story taking itself seriously. And then the long slide downward.

@Haselius00
@Haselius00 5 ай бұрын
Thanks James! I did this 14 years ago using the modeling program called 3DS MAX by Autodesk. It was assembled & edited as a video in Adobe AfterEffects. Today, my videos are made with Cinema 4D (as the modeling program), rendered with Octane and compiled using the free video editing program DaVinci Resolve. While DaVinci is free, Cinema4D is a costly program, although I have a license through my job. But similar modeling results can be had with the free program called Blender. So basically, you can create videos like this using free software. Yes, it's a steep learning curve, but it can be damn fun! 😀

There just wasn’t enough room for a lower deck, much less a chariot and landing Pod. Discuss
@Haselius00
@Haselius00 6 ай бұрын
You're correct if we accept the original diameter of the ship as shown in the TV show. But in order to accommodate the lower deck as seen in the show and then cross-referenced to the contours of the ship, then the diameter of the Jupiter 2 needs to be 30 meters, or 98 feet, 6 inches, minimum. My design for the Jupiter 2 made for the defunct web series is just that. 30 meters is the sweet spot for the ship. But the magical thing that happens is that a 30-meter diameter also allows for a real chariot AND space pod to exist within the contours of the hull. This larger diameter for the ship accommodates everything shown in the original series, with one exception: The episode where Will is imagining the lower Power Core. From that episode, I've always taken this to be merely William's dream and not a real aspect of the Jupiter 2. If this were a real space, then the Jupiter 2 would have to be almost 200 feet in diameter.

There's a flaw with this. Where you have the Chariot coming out is where the Pod is stored, and when it launches it comes straight out the bottom so I don't understand why this is showing accommodations for the Chariot with a ramp and all. Just to be fair, it is just a show and they didn't really plan for letting us know where they stored everything, but the Chariot just suddenly appeared, outside and we never saw them taking it out of storage and that's probably because they never really had a place to put it. Then when crashed on a planet and the bottom of the ship isn't exposed, how are they supposed to get it out with this style of ramp? And when you're on the top level you can clearly see the Pod through the door to access it so obviously the Chariot can't be located here.
@Haselius00
@Haselius00 6 ай бұрын
There is not a flaw. This larger version of the Jupiter 2 designed for the defunct Web Series was carefully thought out to a high degree. #1 - The ship was not designed to crash. It was designed to land on it's tripod legs. The crash was a disastrous accident. The Chariot ramp might have been a design flaw, but it still was designed to operate this way as a ramp down to a planet's surface. Hence this version of the Jupiter 2 adheres to the original intent: Delivering the Chariot to the ground as an exploration vehicle. #2 - The Space Pod (added in Season 3) was an afterthought by Irwin Allen. The design shown in this video tries to accommodate the Pod as an intentional vehicle. And from the very conception of the Pod, it was ridiculous to assume it emerged from below the ship as the original series showed it. (As if it were the Flying Sub from YTTBOTS.) If the Jupiter 2 had landed safely on a planet then the Pod would be impossible to launch as a recon vessel and would be completely useless. So the decision for the web series was to show the Pod as launching vertically from the Main Deck so that it could still function when landed on a planet.
