(More details will be added!) Quick diagram of how the chariot ramp works with the new, larger, Jupiter 2 being used for the web series. First part shows the exterior. 2nd half shows the Chariot storage bay and small workshop. See the full plans at LostInSpaceTheWebSeries(dot) com.
Again, this is just an early diagram! Many, many more details will be added and changes will occur.

@jder06 Thanks jder. Yes, I imagined that the chariot chassis would be basically in one piece, hence the need for a "Chariot Ramp" which is in keeping with the original blueprints for the Jupiter 2.. The plexiglass superstructure would be assembled, just like in the TV show. Hopefully I'll eventually get around to showing that!

I always thought the Robinsons and Don had to assemble the chariot.. at least that’s what I remember from one of the episodes.

@Kiwifrank Yes, the superstructure of the Chariot would be assembled. There is a large storage bay next to the Chariot Bay on the new ship. (You can see part of it on the left in the interior view.) The chassis would be already partially assembled to save time.

Ron, Great job as usual. I can't wait to see the next install. One quick question for you. Are you going to "tweak" the Chariots looks at all, completely redesign it, or leave it original?

@jennjelly Thanks for the comment! Probably the same way they did on the original series. We're assuming that Alpha Control never intended the Jupiter to crash land. So getting the chariot out would be more of a dramatic challenge :)

According to original Lost in Space episodes lore, the Chariot had to be taken out in component form and assembled

Yes, you're right. That's why I show only a representation of the chassis here. The superstructure would be assembled after the chassis was lowered to the ground. :)

hello my great designnig friend, trust me when i say all fans of the show remember the fact that, major west had to unpack and assemble the chariot. it was designed to be portable and stored till they made it to alpha century.

This does look cool, but if I remember correctly, they had to take apart the chariot for storage, not just drive it in or out, like the space pod.

Watching this makes me think how enormous the Jupiter 2 would have to be to carry all this equipment

Fox studios did have the full scale mock up of the Jupiter 2 with a working ramp. But it was never used. A later Irwin Allen unsold sci fi tv pilot (Man From The 25th century) re uses the Jupiter 2 full scale mock up and has the lead character drive his car down the ramp and away. If you google the title I mentioned you will see a few uploads.

Well, the ramp could have been used in Island In the Sky, I saw a picture of the full scale mock up in a book some time ago, which I presume was used for the exterior scenes following the crash, up till the Robinson's returned after finding John. When the exterior haul became a skirt at the base did not bear any resemblance to the profile of the two level J-2. I did see the ramp on the pilot Man From the 25th Century.

There's a flaw with this. Where you have the Chariot coming out is where the Pod is stored, and when it launches it comes straight out the bottom so I don't understand why this is showing accommodations for the Chariot with a ramp and all. Just to be fair, it is just a show and they didn't really plan for letting us know where they stored everything, but the Chariot just suddenly appeared, outside and we never saw them taking it out of storage and that's probably because they never really had a place to put it. Then when crashed on a planet and the bottom of the ship isn't exposed, how are they supposed to get it out with this style of ramp? And when you're on the top level you can clearly see the Pod through the door to access it so obviously the Chariot can't be located here.

There is not a flaw. This larger version of the Jupiter 2 designed for the defunct Web Series was carefully thought out to a high degree. #1 - The ship was not designed to crash. It was designed to land on it's tripod legs. The crash was a disastrous accident. The Chariot ramp might have been a design flaw, but it still was designed to operate this way as a ramp down to a planet's surface. Hence this version of the Jupiter 2 adheres to the original intent: Delivering the Chariot to the ground as an exploration vehicle. #2 - The Space Pod (added in Season 3) was an afterthought by Irwin Allen. The design shown in this video tries to accommodate the Pod as an intentional vehicle. And from the very conception of the Pod, it was ridiculous to assume it emerged from below the ship as the original series showed it. (As if it were the Flying Sub from YTTBOTS.) If the Jupiter 2 had landed safely on a planet then the Pod would be impossible to launch as a recon vessel and would be completely useless. So the decision for the web series was to show the Pod as launching vertically from the Main Deck so that it could still function when landed on a planet.

@Seeker13732 I think the chariot will be tweaked. We're trying to obtain the use of a real vehicle that we can use for close-up shots. If not, we'll probably go all-CG and just use the original chariot design. Thanks!

@dave97202 Perhaps the latter. The mechanics are not completely designed yet. I just wanted to study the spaces and see where there was logical room for the mechanism. Thanks!

I always thought the Chariot was stowed with the roof folded down onto the base. between the treads and the roof is just empty space surrounded by plexi.

Like the J2 and space pod redesigns, the robot and chariot lifts, the added main window proection. Does the pod also have shields? It has a large windshield. Point well made about getting the chariot out, if the J2 crash lands. Had a problem accessing your site. Is it still active? Would like to see the background info.

I've always been baffled by how the Huge Chariot Rover In the Series Was Stored In the Jupiter II. Was it partly Disassembled And the Top Was Folded Down In Sections. Or was it Parked in And Placed Under the Hull Ar an Angle
@Haselius00

See my pinned comment at the top of the list of replies here. Yes, the Chariot's chassis would have been pre-assembled on Earth. Thus it could be stored within the 7-foot high lower deck on a ramp. The glass superstructure was assembled on-planet by the crew.

how does the chariot get out when jupiter 2 has a crash landing? you should put a garage door type thing up on deck one so it can just drive out and us the lift in your video for when they land with landing struts...

Ok ok, if that's how they get the chariot out, then how did they get it out when they crashed on the planet, and the entire ship was flat on the ground
@Haselius00

The Jupiter 2 was never designed to crash. That's why this video shows the original intent of how the chariot would be deployed when the Jupiter made a safe landing. That's all this is.

Oh, one more thing. Anyway you could put the robot on a 'diet'? Maybe making him looking less bulky would be nice. Maybe even give him 'legs.'
