I had the privilege of meeting Barry Foster while I was in the Air Force. He had a half brother stationed at Dyess AFB who I went to the NCO Academy at Goodfellow AFB back in 1995. On graduation night he sat across from me at our assigned table. Nice guy. First question I asked was why did he give that million $ check back his last year. He said basically he was just tired of playing. I asked him how did players get paid and was surprised to hear they got paid every week. I think that was the year Deon had gotten a big contract. He broke down incentives, signing bonuses etc... it was an eye opening education. I asked how come guys went broke and he said everything you saw in this video. He called out one brotha in particular whose name I can't recall but said this fool walked around with a brief case full of money. Bought crazy cars, made dumbass investments and spent thousands in strip clubs. I remember him distinctly telling me the players who were investing their moneies wisely and said in 20 years or so watch these two guys because they will be wealthy based on investments. Who were those two guys you may ask? Troy Aikman and John Ellway. I kick myself in the ass for not getting his autograph and pictures with him. But I've never seen high ranking Air Force people kiss a guys ass like they kissed his. It was Mr Foster this, can we get you anything Mr Foster? I introduced him to my Colonel who sat next to him and said sir do you know who this guy is? He said no. I said Barry Foster, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He looked dead at him and said Mr Foster I apologize but I have no clue who you are. Barry laughed and said sir thats the best compliment I've gotten all night! When we got back to Dyess AFB we never let the Colonel leave it down. Someone was smart enough to have him autograph the graduation pamphlet and we gave it to him at his change of command which he appreciated.
