So I wanted to remove and add some emulated games, went into EMUdeck and clicked "manage roms". Thsi stripped all my files of the custom artwork I manually added via the steamgrid plugin. Will this happen every time as it undid a couple hours of work.. thanks.

Unfortunately I am fully convinced since I had the pre ordered first batch of them. I think its fucked. Once I go to the remote play They see eachother but neither willl connect when I selecet pair. It tells me to put a code in that never pops up. I just want to be able to play my emulators

Can i do this without any pc?

When I download the recovery image the name is steam deck repairs or something. And the download is compressed. Is that a problem?

I can confirm I just used the newest version on their website because I didn't read the comments first... thankfully their most recent version based on the github was released 3 days ago. I believe they fixed the problem. Everything cloned successfully. I installed my new SSD, powered on and got worried at first because loading took a minute and it went to the original setup and login screen like a factory restore. Chose English and my time zone, logged into my account and everything is perfectly as I left it. I do have to redo settings and some things, it's almost as if it's a fresh install, yet all my games are installed and working (I've only tested elden ring so far). All my video files I've saved etc are there in desktop mode. All good! 👍 Thank you for the guide! 😊 Edit: Also, decky is installed and all my decky settings/ui changes that I've noticed are intact as well.

Great guide! Confirmed working. Date(UK): 21/07/2024 - Balena Etcher version 1.18.11 (Obtained from GitHub link in comments) - From 512GB to 2TB (WD SN770M). OLED Steam Deck and same enclosure. Cloning process took ~25 - 35 mins (75% of the 512GB was used). 👍

I have run into a problem. When downloading the Balena Etcher from the official website the APPIMAGE does not appears, that's importante because right there's just a zip file, when you extract the zip there's a bunch of file but there's no clear way for how install Balena Etcher. I NEED HELP PLEASE!!!

Worked perfectly 👍! I used Balena Etcher 1.18.11 (even 1.18.13 wouldn't work for some reason).

NOT an easy method! I did each step EXACTLY as in the video. Even downloading the older app image of Belina Etcher. My new 1TB drive is showing in my Steam Deck as the old 512GB. It “cloned” the size as well. Not happy. :(

I see so many videos about on Decky! And without fail, 90% of the comments below are Decky broke my XZY on my Steam Deck. I don't understand why content creators are promoting Decky when it is clearly unstable and comes with high risks.

Can all this be done without a mouse? as in, is it possible to right click using a button on the steamdeck?

Great video. Just followed the process and Deck storage is upgraded to 2TB. My unit does not have the heat foil on top of the screw for some reason (different metal plate - bought in Japan) which made that part even easier. The reboot took a long time tho, probably because I've used a slow flashdrive. I took the opportunity to also install a copper heat shield at the SSD instead of the foil. Thank you for sharing this.

Following your guide was pretty easy, the LCD model i got on sale had different wiring so I only ended up having to unplug the power while i did the swap and i used the older version of the cloning software and everything went smooth, i erased all my games before cloning and just reinstall after the swap, I had a complete panic attack waiting for that first boot up but it seems perfect Got 2tb to work with now : D

Now I can finally play Cyberpunk for more than an hour at a time! It even made my custom modded maps for black ops 3 zombies more stable to stream. Thank you!

So I’ve started over. Followed your instructions completely. Etcher flashed and verified. Looked at storage and nothings changed, still saying 1.8TB free. This was a brand new WD_BLACK SN770M 2TB. I give up and ill have to start over which is ballache.

Any reason why the transfer speed is slow? Mine shows 30 mbs and 201 minutes lol. Im currently doing it. Im hoping the battery doesn't go to zero

For me the hardest part was removing the battery connector. When I pulled the black tag the tag just ripped off and the wires got exposed but I managed to push the connector out by using a thin and sharp tool and pushed the outer edge.
