Thanks for this, after this my Forza Horizon 5 doesn’t crash randomly anymore ! It would crash in free mode and now I’m even doing races and it’s a little smoother too! Also i now understand why it wasn’t working perfectly because it’s a windows based games and makes sense

I hope this helps me play 'Bully: Scholarship Edition'. When the game loads it's drowned out by an awful cackling sound that makes it unplayable. It's the only game in my library that doesn't work 😞

For anyone looking at this in 2024 follow the steps in this video. But if you're having trouble still, do the following. When in desktop mode, close steam, otherwise (for me at least) PrtonUp-QT doesn't give the option to select a version when you try and add a new one. And as of Mar 28th, posting this. DO NOT CHOSE the latest option. GE-Proton9-2 It SAYS that there's an "Active Download" top right but nothing actually happens. But when you go to the prior version of GE-Proton9-1 instead and you'll find an actual progress bar appears at the bottom of the window. When finished it should then show in the "Installed Compatibility tools" area. ProtonUP-QT also has the option bottom right, to "Show Game List" and choose which version of proton you'd like to select for which game.

@@kovusaur you don’t need to install the latest version if everything is working fine. You can check the GitHub page for the latest release, I don’t believe there is a way to get notification. Usually each release will contain fixes for certain games so you can check the release notes to see if it’s worth downloading. I usually check back everyone and again, or other YT channels such as gaming on Linux post about it and I get alerted that way

Didnt work when trying to bootup saints row 2. Im like 0/3 on the "game wont load" steamdeck how-to's, so ig i cant play saints row 2 on the steamdeck. Idk why i even buy the game while its on sale if i already have it on the 360... Is there an update to this or maybe something else to help remedy this? The only thing that worked for me is verifying the game's files being installed correctly, but that didnt work neither. Ill be playing my saints row games on consoles now until theres an answer to this, thanks for anyone helping

It's worth giving it a shot - nothing to lose. Also worth checking over on protondb.com as you may find that there are other fixes you could try

It doesn't update automatically. You use the app to download new releases, and also delete old versions. If you'll want to delete an old version though, you first need to make sure no-games are using it. You can easily manage this in the app though, and it makes it really easy.

Hey, I'm having some trouble with this. First of all, protonup-qt is taking absolute ages to open at all, then when I go to add version, it takes just as long to allow me to hit install. After I hit install, the active downloads ticks up one for a few minutes, and then drops to 0, but the list doesn't populate with the version of proton GE. Any idea what the problem might be?

Proton and Proton GE wont get Anarchy Online running. And its one of those old MMO's I really want to get working. I tried installing ProtonTricks but that shit don't really work either. Its confusing to use as well. I tried using launch options with protontricks but that didn't work either... AO has to patch first before you can actually play it. Technically it will boot the games launcher first, patch game, then after fully patched you will have to hit play from launcher.... I tried following the AO official guide for steamdeck but that doesn't work either.... I get errors. And the launcher never opens. And I of course have no idea how to use wine.

The game opens up and prompts me to the menu, but if I press play it’s just a black screen with some background noise from the game. Sounds like you may not have installed it correctly. Try again, and make sure that ‘install for’ has steam selected. See 2:29 for reference. Good luck!

Proton isn’t working for me. I’ve tried on multiple different games and they all refuse to launch with proton selected. I’ve tried over 20 different versions of proton as well that have all been working for other people on that specific game. Could I somehow have a faulty device? Could I request an RMA from Valve for this?

It won’t be a hardware issue. You probably need to do a factory reset. Also make sure you are on the stable of steamOS, and if you haven’t tried yet, so a full system reboot

Not ever game will work. Did you check over at proton db website? For each game you can find out which version (if any) works best. Some games need additional run commands to boot
