My playstyle is clearly similar to VillainTheory's, so tend to agree with his perspective much of the time. I also flip to Alter Ego frequently (as VT noted he does in previous episodes). People have made great arguments for Gamora's Sword already, so the only thing I want to add to that is that Superpower Training makes it into most of my decks, and I found that I now get Gamora's Sword into play frequently, and it's always worth it when it can be ported in this way (note that I played her 10 times recently).

I’m from the peoples podcast and def have to agree with boomguy on the sword. I think in theory the card is good but not in practice cause I hardly ever play it. I’d also like to make a suggestion to this if I may. Whenever there is a disagreement in a tier ranking or card itself whoever gets their way should automatically concede to the other on the next disagreement. Just a thought. Love the topic love the channel and love the people’s podcast. Keep it up

I really like Gamora's sword but only if you get it towards the beginning of the game. You play a lot of attack events and it can ping a lot of damage throughout a game.

Star Lord: Agree with Boomguy --to me, once I get the boots, I don't have to be as careful. Groot: agree with VT, though I like to cheat into Boomguy's play style by getting 8-10 counters, then spending like crazy. There are lots of good cards which give you counters back, and those cards don't feel as fun if you're always full on counters. Drax: that Brute Force Aggression deck is amazing --just don't use basic attacks. Parry, Payback, Intimidation + Quickstrike, Smash the Problem, and The Best Defense. His ATK can easily go up to 9 --after Too Stubborn to Die, his ATK goes all the way down to a lowly 6. Oddly, in that deck, DWI Theet Mastery is the worst card. Gamora and Venom: I agree.

The main reason I think Gamora's Sword is weak is that it throws off her cost curve. In solo I often play her with very cheap cards and no double resources, which makes the sword a pain to play even when it would be worth it.
@jongahimer5338
@jongahimer5338 18 сағат бұрын
The only way Gamora’s sword is bad is if you are playing True Solo full rush. Otherwise you will almost always proc it at least 8 times. And those 8 instances are individual pings making them more valuable than Swinging Web Kick. You can clean clear a minion, pop off Tough, etc…
@jonahg3713
@jonahg3713 58 секунд бұрын
Agree. You're going to proc it probably twice a turn on Gamora, with some extra when you play Crosscounter in the villain phase. You'll easily proc it double digit times throughout a game unless you're in true solo. If you are, there are two player side schemes that can fetch it, and if you get it out early, it will easily exceed a single attack event in value throughout the game

I just love this series, so Fun! I think Star Lord's worst cards are pretty close, but I think Boom Guy got it correct with Nova Prime. Groot is hard for me. I use both of those cards fairly frequently. I really only enjoy Groot in Multiplayer, so am flipping down every round and burning counters. Defending for 6, readying and attacking for 4 to flip down and do it again is worth the 4 counters IMO. But thwarting for 9-10 (or 18-20 with overwatch) is always solid, even though ita not always a guaranteed hit. Could go either way. For Rocket I actually would likely pick Schwardeinger. It's a great card, but a lot of times it's just a dead draw. I wonder if the shield wave will give us more weapons making reload better. I think reload was the correct call between the 2. Agree 100% with Venom and Gamora, they were my initial go tos. Keep up the great series. So much fun.

Nova Prime is not that bad. VT already outlined the cost argument, but I'd argue the elite argument is overstated. There are 233 minions in the game with 4 or more HP (where I'd argue it's cost-effective to play Nova Prime for minion removal), and 95 of those are elite (about 20 of those are nemesis minions too). In addition, there are about 40 minions with guard that are not elite, and removing any of those is also worth it because it opens up damage on the villain. I do think Nova Prime is a bit restrictive because of his cost, but he also directly solves a lot of board state issues by way of his high stats and minion removal. Side note about elite-trait creep: In Next Evolution there was 1 elite minion, and in Age of Apocalypse there were 2 elite minions (and 5 elite overseer minions, but I'm grouping those separately as they are specific to Apocalypse 1). Elite traits actually peaked between GMW and SM, and has been decreasing a bit since then (mostly limited to extra-challenging modular sets like Sinister Assault or mega-minions like Kraken and Dragon).

I hear the elite-trait thing fairly often and I feel like I must be playing a different game to most people. We frequently encounter annoying non-elite minions. It might be due to leaning into harder mod sets fairly often, but I like those numbers you're sharing!

The only one I have much issue with is Savage Attack. Venom does need the damage and it's cheaper than using Run and Gun for just one more damage. I hardly ever play lock & load - it's usually dead on a second+ deck pass & frequently on the first.
@VillainTheory
@VillainTheory 16 сағат бұрын
Totally fair! I will defend him not "needing" the damage though - but he doesn't hate it, certainly! Run and Gun is perfect for defeating his many nemeses, is more flexible on damage distribution and can also be split thwarting. And Lock and Load speeds up his setup which I value very highly.
@alberttaco3668
@alberttaco3668 4 сағат бұрын
I agree with you Savage Attack is much more useful and agressively costed than Run and Gun. I use Run and Gun once per game at best -ie: nemesis-, but savage attack, is just a good and fairly costed tool, either to remove a minion, or to reduce Villain HP. None of those cards are outstanding, but one is just more likely to hit the board than the other.

Absolutely love this series! Re:Gamora’s Sword. While I do agree that it’s her least good card, I’ve come to recently appreciate Gamora particularly in aggression, and using Lock and Load to get it out really does make a huge difference. You might not get 8 damage out of it, but the times where it helps you finish off a minion you wouldn’t otherwise have been able to contribute to winning the game even if it doesn’t get its full value. So I like it a lot, but only because of the side scheme

The game is drastically different at higher player counts. It took me a long time to realize that almost every CDB deck and every content creator’s take needed to be modded/taken with a grain of salt. Everyone was losing their minds when Wolverine dropped so I bought him off the hype. Played him 3 times. Funny how 6-8 damage events lose impact when the villain’s health pool is 180.

@@mattvoegtli9928 Yeah. It’s unfortunate that everyone tags them multiplayer. It also amazes me how many play the game at True Solo. The game seems fairly unbalanced. @alberttaco3668
@alberttaco3668 4 сағат бұрын
@@jongahimer5338 I think I'm agreeing with your point to some extent. I would say a card like "Advance" is overtuned in true solo. It puts so much pressure on the solo player that it can lose you a game out of nowhere if you don't "over respect it". From 2 players and ownard, it is just a powerful card, but it rarely causes an instant-loss for no reason. In the same idea, "gang up" can be extremely mean in solo play, but from 2 players and ownard, it is more often than not a regular "assault", because of the way the minions are spread out among players. The more players, the more likely "gang up" will "fizzle". This said I think true solo is just a very specific variant of the game, that make you see the game vastly differently as you would if you play coop. And this is where MCDB is misleading: most decks have this "true solo bias", which create cacophony. Some people might think that playing "coop" games, just require several "true solo decks", and that is totally missing the point of how the game can be optimally played in multiplayers. Each decks can be a separate engine, which synergize together, like a "Torque Converter", and though those decks would not work in "true solo" -so poorly rated on MCDB-, they will overperform true solo deck by a miles in "cooperative play". Marvel Champions is very well designed, with many ways to play the game, to build decks, and to customize villains. The Hegemony of True Solo Mindset is what can amper the game, and to some extent, render MarvelCDB quite redundant, and uninformative. Fortunately there is youtube with many different style of play showcased, and not only "true solo mindseted".

Bad Boy is one of the best cards Star-Lord has. Basically a trump card/safety net which is ideal for a high risk character like him. On top of that it is almost needed as setup for your best Combos since two additional cards can not only help you get missing Combo pieces or help pay for them but it also helps you deckout for the extra facedown encounter card. It is also an option to get into alter ego to heal without giving the Villain a free scheme activation. And you can keep it around for the ideal moment which makes him more consistent overall. Unlike toughs or immediate draw effects etc. You would wish other cards had all this to offer. It is not even close to be his worst card. Thanks for shielding our (Star-)Lord and saviour from undeserved critiques, VT 😅

Great content of such a pretty mammoth task. Love the basis of Encounter deck + Mandatory Mods (Exc. Recommended Mods) Pretty good on most the call outs of differences in 'player counts'. But... Yes, mostly those with a trigger "after step 1 of villain phase, add **1**" are easier in 4up, and harder in 1up. But those triggered off 'activations'/'enc-cards' don't change difficulty on player count (PC). If the villain has steady/stalwart, then it's probably actually worse in 4Up, as 'status lock' is NOT an option there. RE: Collector 1 & Tower Defense: would fall under the above disagreement of 'PC' issues. But agree with those pointed out for Zola & Ronan. RE: Venom The Bell Tower is next to useless in 4Up. There are 'non-treachery' Enc-card that just "strip **ALL**" tokens (as well as the cards that just remove a couple). And in 4Up that happens too often to bother with using it as a "reliable" meaningful mechanic. {To be noted, She-Hulk with the +1Atk/-1Thw campaign upgrade, can just punch the bell tower on T1, rather than do nothing or activate his innate. 😀 And promptly have her tokens removed by previously stated Enc-card/s #HappenedThisWeek}

I rarely disagree with VT, but on Quicksilver, that extra +1 Def should get used most rounds, no matter what build you're using. Quicksilver gets to defend --essentially for free. He readies once per phase when he activates a basic power. So, after he defends, he readies --which means he could exhaust Friction Resistance to use a 1-cost interrupt / response, then defend to ready himself and FR... This maximizes FR and gives you so many options in multiplayer. The only consequence is that with 2-3 defense, he could still be taking some damage from the villain.

The best villain tierlist for marvel champions out there, because it covers all player counts, and is highly analytical about it instead of being based on vibes. You've outdone yourself with this one, VT. One thing that's maybe worth analyzing in a future video is how are certain villains difficult (even though you kind of covered it with the strengths and weaknesses part). Let me explain: I think that Venom Goblin is harder than Ronan in terms of mechanics. How many things he throws at you at once, how much pressure he puts on you, and how many things you have to do well to survive at the same time (as well as the ticking bomb of the three main schemes). Meanwhile Ronan is simpler and does less stuff, but he just throws big numbers at you. Bigger attacks, more attacks, side schemes with a lot of threat... At the same time, someone like Nebula is dangerous because of surge chains, more than anything inherent to her kit. So with this in mind, I think there's room to break down each villain in a short-ish video, where those inner workings are analyzed. You could even call it something catchy, like... Villain Theory? 😜
