Quick question - would I get full access to the online materials of my current modules after I've finished them? I was wondering because I’m doing a language module and there are some very useful audio clips and pronunciation guide etc on the module page online and half of the units are completely online… would be a shame if I can’t access those and review them again next year once I’ve moved onto the next stage… (if I'll have no access to them at the next stage, I might have to find a way to download/save everything in advance which might be a bit tricky... either way, it’d be good to know if full access to past module materials is available or not 🙂)

Hello Stacey I'm just at the start of my OU journey so this is just what I need to help me with the nerves before I start. I'm same I went to a uni 5 year ago I was actually a mature student then, just done 4 year college priory to that so the fact I left in the first year like you it kind of gets me down. So here I am ready for my pursuit of a history degree :) I know you mentioned it briefly in this vid but can you possibly do a vid on referencing as I've only ever done assignments at HND level 3 so I'm really stressed about that part of it & possibly a part reason I left before, I was 30 mature student & everyone else was kids & I just didn't feel the support like I did at college. I can go into level 2 because of my level 3 but choosing the level 1 for the reasons I mentioned above & to help me into my stride with it all. Brilliant vid by the way very much needed as you just can't get certain info off the OU websites as it's a bit dull & stressful.
@stacysspace3 ай бұрын
Hi! I am so glad you found it helpful! I am happy to do a video on referencing soon, but for the meantime, I just want to ease your mind. If you are going into Level 1, the OU guide you through referencing really well in my opinion-I was really worried about it before starting my degree too. They also have some fantastic referencing information provided in every module, the library have referencing workshops and Student Hub Live create wonderful live video classes (saved onto YT) about referencing so look them up because they differentiate their classes for Beginner, Intermediate etc. I talk a little bit about them in my next video actually. If you have ANY trouble with it, your tutor should be able to give you guidance too. Have you already started your first module or is it upcoming? X

Hi Stacy Do you use any techniques regarding reading your course materials? Thank you x
@stacysspace3 ай бұрын
Do you mean things like skim reading etc? To be honest, I am awful at that and I just prefer to read it normally-I am a fairly fast reader anyway. What I have noticed about reading this year (Level 2), is that I have a lot more reading to do as part of my course materials with reports, articles etc so I try to space them out where I can. I also always read the corresponding book chapter first if there is one too-even if it is supposed to be read later because I find it interrupts my flow otherwise. What kind of techniques were you thinking of? X
@janiceallan29813 ай бұрын
@@stacysspace that was great! Thank you. I can't skim read. I just wondered if there was anything I could try. You have reassured me! Thank you again x

Hi Stacy, I’m a crafter too, I like to crochet, cross stitch, a bit of latch hook (which I think you would enjoy) and I also hand quilt and journal. I am an avid reader but only read once my studies are over for the day but my best relaxation comes from cuddling the cats xx

Yes-animals are the best relaxation in my opinion-I would have loads more if I could! Oooh, I will have to have a look at latch hook, I have never tried it. I absolutely love quilts and always meant to make one for H when he was little but never got around to it. Xx

Do you find having two years of level one too much? Like im yhinking of doing history and i am concerned il be too stuck in level one ways whwn j do level two.. Did you like only focusing on one moduke at a yime rather than myltiple modulws.like you would in a brick unu.
@stacysspace3 ай бұрын
I wondered the same before I started, but because it is two separate modules per level (in my case), it feels different every year anyway and they give me enough to focus on that it doesn’t feel too ‘samey’. Have you looked into the OU history degree options? You can always study full-time if you have enough time for it-I study part-time due to family and health reasons. That being said, for me, I think studying on one module at a time is beneficial because I can immerse myself in it and really get to grips with it, whereas studying for two different modules that can be quite fast-paced can be overwhelming for some I am sure. It definitely is a very individual decision. I hope that helped! 😊

Oh, I am so glad you like them! The stand I am using is from Amazon called the 'LORYERGO Laptop stand'. I can't link it in the comments unfortunately but I will try to link in the description of my next video just in case you can't find it. I don't mind sharing what app I use-it's Goodnotes. How did you find the transition from level 1 to level 2 modules? Ive seen a big warning on my level 2 modules to say there is much less support and direction at level 2. (My current level 1 tutor has never spojen to or emailed me and only prerecords tutorials so i cant imagine what 'less support' looks like!!)
@stacysspace4 ай бұрын
I actually have a video about this coming up, but in a nutshell, I feel like I have been eased into it. The OU do that really well in my opinion/experience, but I would say I feel as supported as I always have been, which to be fair, unless I need an extension, I barely have contact with my tutor which suits me. For me, the biggest difference is the emphasis on referencing etc and the amount of resources used that are not written by the OU. Does that help? Let me know if you want any other info 😊

Hi Stacy How do you cope with procrastination? Thank you
@stacysspace4 ай бұрын
Hi, if I am really honest, I sometimes just go with the flow of procrastination and end up with a sparkling clean house right before a TMA is due 🤣 That said, the best way I have found to overcome it is to make sure my study space is distraction-free and then give myself 20-30 mins to get into it. If I am still struggling after that, I will let myself get up and complete a procrastination task and then try again. Another good way to prevent it is to book myself time to study. That way, if I have planned it into my week properly, I have fewer excuses. I don’t think anything is foolproof but these are good ways for me. Also, if I suddenly find myself in the mood to study but I am supposed to be doing something else, as long as that something else isn’t super-important, I go with the feeling because it doesn’t happen that often! I hope that helps x
