I would like this video 1000 times if I could. I needed something like this. I can't wait to start my degree in October. I will be able to access the module website on the 8th of September and that's when I plan on starting my work. I would like a head start especially with having two kids and working part-time.

19:58 As a fellow auditory learner, I really appreciate the points you made, around this especially. Learning from any type of seminar or tutoring makes a huge impact, despite/ especially if our personal views don't agree with the teachings. Things like that teach me more because I feel more challenged personally. The getting ahead/ health prep tip for the winter meant so much. Have a good new years!

Hi Stacey. Really useful video. I've done 3 years of my degree (part time) and have another 3 to go after having to defer last year. So although I've already studied quite a lot with the OU there were still things in this video that I've found useful. Really hope to get involved with this community as one of the things I've struggled with is the lack of sociability with fellow students.

Good on you for doing three years so far Sandra! How are you finding it? So glad you have found some useful info in my videos. Yes-I agree, I think it’s so important to speak to others studying with the OU-if only to feel less alone. It’s a huge part of why I started these videos. Have you looked on Facebook, Instagram etc? There are some clubs and groups on there you can join and I love following study accounts on IG! X

This is a really good video. I'm not the kind of person who is organised, always motivated (don't get me wrong, I'm doing this because I want to but it's hard to get motivated some days and other days I'm extremely motivated) or even able to stick to a routine so I find myself studying like hell some days and not at all on others. I started in the spring and the first module was intense, like 14 hours a week for a 30 credit module. I'm about to get my result for TM111 (I'm studying Computing and IT for my degree) next week even though I submitted the final TMA in early September. Now I'm doing two modules at once (TM112 and MU123) and it's tough to prioritise but like you, I always study the whole book and I always attend the tutorials where possible, even if it means I'm behind where I should be. I'm not entirely happy that my degree consists of twelve 30 credit modules as I'd prefer some 60 credit modules in there so I'm not having to constantly do multiple courses at once, but well, it is what it is. My computer/Google Calendar is in my bad books because I get it to remind me when I have a tutorial and it doesn't always do that 😐I understand why some people just go straight to the TMA-related stuff, but my belief is that everything in the course materials is there for a reason and even if to some people it might seem superfluous to study it now, the knowledge we gain could come in handy later down the line when it comes to level 2 and 3 study. In fact, I'm sure it will. I think I can catch up as the maths stuff comes pretty easy to me. But I have no prior experience in computing so I need to study a lot harder for that. Congrats on being in the 100% club! I'm not there yet. I've had four scores between 96 and 99% but no 100s! Just subscribed to your channel and well done on your progress so far 🙂

Managed to get hold of the two books you reccomended in your last video so I'm working through them at the moment. I wish I'd applied for DSA now but I'll try and get by. I'm getting organised well in advance before the difficult bit in October when I panic...panic...panic🤣😆🤣

@@stacysspace Loving the new workstation. Can gaze out the bedroom window at the plants on my terrace and can even see the diminishing countryside and trees in the distance if I want to daydream but doubt if there'll be a lot of time for that. I found the books super helpful from what I've managed to read so far. Have made some study/time planners. Still looking forward to October!

Thank you so much. I am moving from Uni to the OU this year. Having spent a year at physical uni, your points around the organisation are essential. I am someone that prints out the assignments and has a notebook for each module. I had some hesitation about moving to the OU but listening to your guidance I know I am going to be okay. This was really helpful. Thank you.

Hi Robert, really glad you found it useful :) I haven't taken an access course myself, but I have heard really positive things about them. I would suggest calling the student helpdesk and asking them for advice on whether they think you would benefit from an access course. SO many OU students have not studied for many years and then go straight into a degree with the OU (myself included) and find it a really gentle learning curve. I don't know if that depends on the subject though. I have found that the OU really gently eased me into the degree with study techniques, advice, leadership etc so it was not too overwhelming at all. Let me know how you get on :)

Hello! Apologies for my late reply. There is a module website per module which you can access via your own 'student home' portal. You will also receive module materials for most modules but that does depend on what you are studying I have heard. I *think* it is possible to transfer credits, but the best people to speak to on that would be the student helpdesk. I hope that helps :)

I have Fibromyalgia and Epilepsy; when they say they can make accomdations for illnesses on forms, I never understood what they meant. Is there anyone else who suffers with the same conditions that have had adaptions or know any way to find more knowledge? I have done a lot of damage while sitting at a computer so I'm worried😢

Apologies for the late reply! The way it worked for me is that I applied for DSA (Disabled Students Allowance) and was booked in for an online meeting with an assessor who was lovely and only there to assess all of the needs I have and work out how to make the best adaptations for me. I then had a gentleman come to my house to measyre spaces and me in order to ensure they were providing suitable equipment etc. Then my equipment was delivered. I receved a sit/stand desk, ergonomic chair, footstool, bed desk for my laptop for days when I cant get up, software, second screen etc, etc. It was much easier than I thought it would be. The OU also ensure your tutor is aware of your disabiliry to ensure they can provide you with extensions if needed etc. Its very personalised so hard to say how they can help you specifically. You can speak to the disabled students team at the OU who might be able to give you a better idea. I hope that helps to some degree :)

There are tutorials but 99% of the learning is online and self-led for most modules I believe. You choose your modules every year, some modules may be compulsory depending on your degree but others will have to be chosen. Hope this helps 😊

All of my tutorials have been online-I know that some modules used to have face-to-face tutorials before the pandemic but I’m not sure if they are back yet. The best thing to do would be to ask the OU directly, they will be able to tell you and also help you work around it if needs be. X
