Regarding Lexus RZ, the price reduction is not because of using chinese parts (2024 RZ300e already had CATL batteries) but rather they just now reflecting costs coming down internally. That's the whole beauty of the Toyota plan, after all. At no point do they ever need to dip into negative margin territory for markets like the US, since hybrids keep them well within compliance for EPA CAFE.

@lsft9 күн бұрын
I really hope they will do that. But a larger battery pack is better.
@miraphycs737710 күн бұрын
LSFT, your 88km WLTC value for the NX is actually only for the city. The combined range is lower. So for example, the city range for RAV4 Prime is 92~ish km while for combined it is 73km, just like the new Alphard/Vellfire PHEV. This means that its EV range in WLTP/WLTC is the same as RAV4 Prime (73km) eventhough it is a bigger brick. Another interesting thing is Alphard/Vellfire PHEV's fuel economy are rated better than the regular AWD hybrid variant which rarely happens with Toyota PHEV (16.7km/l vs 16.5km/l). These mean that some efficiency improvement has been gained with the PHEV powertrain system. I personally would prefer this PHEV setup just with slightly bigger battery. Perhaps 25kwh with 20kwh usable and get 50mi in EPA-equivalent cycle. I like how Toyota now added DCFC and V2H capability however I would like the DCFC rate to be around 50kw (so it can charge even faster). I also would like to see faster AC charging kw as DCFC is very expensive At the very least, this confirms upcoming Toyota PHEV will have DCFC and V2H capabilty
@lsft9 күн бұрын
Thanks for your clarification and insights. The ratings in different countries are different.
@RaymondAngT10 күн бұрын
PHEV is much better than BEV for now. Until solid state battery is ready, Toyota will introduce more BEV models. There is rumour that Toyota will reintroduce Previa as BEV only.
@lsft10 күн бұрын
Time will tell... I agree that BEVs are not good enough for some places in the world, but works in certain countries where infrastructure is good enough. The PHEV on the Alphard and Vellfire is just a carry over system from RAV4, NX/RX. The minivans have more potential to a larger battery to give it more range and it works well in some asian countries. Since they don't sell these in North America anyways.

For 30 years, I’ve been pulling up to the gas pumps the same way. I just bought an RX for my wife. I went to fill it up and like always, I open the door a bit and wait until I pass the pole. This way I avoid hitting it. This damned car lit up like a Christmas tree. Bells, alarms, the dash saying God knows what about my mother. So I hit the brake and threw it into park. Then, I went to hit the off button. Except that’s not f-ing park anymore is it? Because after almost a century of automotive history with park at the top of the tree… it’s reverse now. Because hitting a separate button for park makes way more sense apparently? The car reversed into the pole I’d just avoided. $5k mistake.
@lsft12 күн бұрын
That's why the topic is love it or hate it. If you just power off the car and not put it into park, it would switch it to park before power off.
@flavio-p12 күн бұрын
@ For sure. Very apparent I’m in the hate it category. All of these “innovations” are like car manufacturers solving problems that no one had. Cost cutting that compromises safety, disguised as luxury.
@lsft12 күн бұрын
@flavio-p i think they are only solving problem they have. Trying to reduce size and weight to gain efficiency. This shifter has been on the market for many many years. Just on different form. I would take this over the push button or knob shifters that are out there
@flavio-p12 күн бұрын
@ I agree with the last statement but why are we settling? It’s like the lesser of two or three evils. Optimization has its tipping point. Like how bulletproof V6’s are being replaced by forced induction 4cylinders. Points of failure have been increased and the maintenance schedule has tightened due to carbon buildup. This is an about face to the very principles that made Toyota so successful. The mechanical shifter was perfect. Are soccer moms REALLY banging through gears on paddle shifters? I don’t think they are.

Thanks a lot for this video. Very useful. Noted (i) if you have winter tires on rims, there is no charge by DVN Lexus for tire switch with the summer tires for Level 2 and Level 3 services, which is a saving of at least $100 a year (for a Service Level 1 there would be a charge since no rotation is included in such a service). (ii) if driving a PHEV, rather than a hybrid HEV, there is a good argument that you only need to change your oil and filter every 12 months if, for example, you say only drive 4,000 or less km using the gas engine in 12 months); this is compared to an HEV with an oil and filter change every 6 months. Personally, I do not prefer run flat tires and think I will replace the Bridgestones with Michelin Cross Climare 2s, which are all weather tires capable of performing well in the winter conditions.
@lsft12 күн бұрын
I just did a Service 1 last month and they installed the winter tires without costing me anything. As part of Service 1 - they do rotate tires. Many owners have switched to Michelin Cross Climates 2s and they have been good reviews. I'm still thinking since I already have a set of Michelin X-Ice, I might look for a more electric vehicle purpose all seasons. I don't need the all weather tires in the summer to reduce a few km of EV range. I did look at the Goodyear Electric Drive 2 for my replacement.
@michaelmorrow649912 күн бұрын
@@lsft Many thanks. Yes, you are quite right, all of Service 1, Service 2 and Service 3 include a tire rotation. My wife has a set of the run flat Bridgestone Alenzas on her UX250h and a set of Michelin X-Ices on a second set of rims. Both sets of tires were bought from DVN Lexus. She has to take it in for a service shortly, and I will confirm the situation; no one told us about the free switching of tires. We will now arrange her 6 monthly services each year in the Fall and Spring to coincide with the tire switches. I owe you another coffee (:

Many thanks for all the time and effort you put into making these videos. Yes, it makes utter sense to me (as you recommend) to make sure there are no issues, particularly electrical ones, if you plan on adding an aftermarket/third party anti theft system such as IGLA, Ghost II or Starline. And you should consider purchasing it through the dealership (even if it is more expensive) to ensure that you do not void the warranty. Have you any further thoughts on this updated as of December 2024?
@lsft13 күн бұрын
There are no updates on this as of Dec 2024. The systems you mention are currently the best to ensure the car does not get stolen. If possible park in garage overnight and just be careful when you enter or exit your car. Instead of stealing cars, they are carjacking and it makes it even worst.
@michaelmorrow649913 күн бұрын
@@lsft Many thanks. Yes, I am aware of the current carjacking risk as per the recent event in Toronto where the dog was still in the car when the thief carjacked the driver. Just it seems that even with a simple say "properly and professionally installed" IGLA or Ghost II there is no loud alarm that goes off as soon as the window is smashed. The Starline S9 system in the UK for example would add this, but it is not available in Canada. p.s. I should really "buy you a cup of coffee" when I work out how to do this (:
@lsft13 күн бұрын
What annoys me is that even with an IGLA or Ghost II system they could still smash your window and try to duplicate a key and then learn that they can't start your car. They are not able to steal it, but now you need to claim insurance to fix the smashed window.
@michaelmorrow649913 күн бұрын
@@lsft Yes, I absolutely agree. You could end up with $2,000 to $5,000 of gross insurance damage to your car - and it is immobilized and still sitting on your driveway or in a parking lot!!! Best would be if Lexus/Toyota offered a factory approved immobilizer and alarm system as an add on option but this may be years away. Failing this, it would be a combined immobilizer and alarm system such as Starline S9 in the UK which is professionally installed (once you know that your new car has no electrical issues) and which does not impact on your Lexus 4 year warranty.
