good info here. I have definitely been slacking on my oral health and am now paying the price, was expecting to need a deep cleaning but after learning more I will really try to avoid it if possible

If you want to develop your skills as quickly as possible, joining a DSO like Aspen (provided that you have good mentorship from the owner) can launch your career forward as quickly as possible. I worked in the military for the first 5 years of my career and it really held me back. Part of that was because of COVID, but if you want to grow you need to be an environment that fosters growth. There certainly are DSOs that will do that for you, and others that really don't care and just need a dentist running the practice. I have worked for both, so it really depends on the specific situation. But I became a way better dentist very quickly by working at Aspen. I could have grown anywhere but Aspen made it easy to do lots of procedures every day. My residency gave me the training to know how to practice safely but Aspen gave me the reps to get good and fast.

Thanks for the awesome video Dr. Rana. As always you kept it real! Quick question. What if I make the minimum payment with 500k in loans? How much would that be? And it seems like a good plan if ones goal is practice ownership. Thanks!

Dental implants as you say will take 5 to10 minutes per implant at a cost of $2500.00 per implant.$10000.00 for 40 minutes work.No wonder dentists push this procedure.Why so much in North America when in other countries it's one quarter of that.Are We Being Scammed or What.

I got 2 deep cleaning with the laser at a gap of 6 month ..... The entire month only took 20 minutes each time... And cost me ₹8,000 each.but he when answering anything... Except that my gums are getting worse. But before cleaning I did not have any bleeding. Pretty confused.

I get your point. The only reason I want to do a residency is to do like dozens of gum grafts, crowns and 3rd molar extractions, which I definitely won't be doing in my 1st year after graduating. Most people who graduate only do composites and simple restaurations. This "decision" still confuses me tbh

i understand. my suggestion is to take a hard job first year out, high volume, and learn specific procedures with courses and taking on relatively more complicated cases

Seriously not sure about my career choice at this point. Been practicing for a little over 10 years. Not sure if the passion is there. Not sure how people do this for 40 or 50 years. So many overheads. Stressful worrying about paying bills. Always wanting to be perfect. Reputation etc.

General dentist here. 5 years out of residency, working in LA. I came to the same conclusion you did a few years out that I'd need to expand my skillset if I ever wanted a job worthwhile in the LA area. I've worked for at least 10 offices in the last 5 years, none of them true corporate like Aspen or PDS, but a few of them pseudo-corporate with private owners trying to emulate the DSO model. It truly is so sad what corporate dentistry puts new grads through. If prospective dental students only knew the overtreatment and ethical issues that happen in the majority of corporate dental offices, I think a lot of them would choose a different field entirely. SRPs being diagnosed for every patient even if it's just a bit of lower anterior plaque.. Onlays treatment planned for every slight interproximal decay so that HMO patients have to pay out of pocket.. crowns for any tooth that's ever seen an amalgam. Half the owners I've worked for would lose their license if their dental work was brought before the board. It really is terrible out there. No one tells you about the $20k+ you need to spend in CE every year to stay competitive with your dental skills and knowledge. Not to mention the extra liability and possibility of getting sued we have to take on compared to our peers in other fields due to the standard risks of any type of dental surgery. The thought of getting PTO, benefits, and job security while making $200k+ in another field that requires much less schooling while also not having to worry about disability insurance, malpractice insurance, and 400k+ in student loans is wild when you think about it. I finally bought my own practice last month, and while I know it will come with its own new set of stress, it feels like there really is a light at the end of the tunnel where I'm in charge of my own fate now and can practice ethically while not breaking my back building another person's dreams. It sounds like you're ready to become an owner. Maybe it's worse out in Miami than LA, but practices hit the market reasonably often as long as you're in touch with the brokers and looking for it. WIth the level of initiative I've heard from you I wouldn't be surprised if you're making videos about your practice ownership in the next year or two. Good luck man.

If I had the grades I probably would have become an oral surgeon if I could do it again. However I didn't have the grades and I can do as little or as much surgery as I want as a general dentist and I still get to do restorative, which I love. GP is great for me but not for everybody

highest pay to start! idea behind it is the more they pay you the more volume it is, the more exposure and practice you’ll have. upside is relative most new grads leave their first job in a year or two. career in general? i’m not sure what you mean, please explain

Great video, did you do CE beginning during 4th yr? Like maxicourse for implants for example. Which kinds of CE would you say helped you the most to develop your current skill set?
@DoctorRanaDDS
@DoctorRanaDDS 12 күн бұрын
no ce in school. maxicourse isn’t something a new dentist should be doing in my opinion. too expensive and unless you have good surgery skills and a lot of implant patients to work on, it’s not really applicaple. every implant course i took was useless in actually placing implants
