So, you think becoming a dentist will make you rich and happy? Think again. In this video, I dive deep into the reality of the dental profession, debunking the common myths and revealing the unexpected challenges that come with the title. While many believe it's a fast track to wealth and satisfaction, the truth is more complicated. From the high cost of education to the emotional toll of patient care, I'll share my personal journey and what truly makes this profession fulfilling (hint: it’s not just about the money). Whether you're a dental student, new grad, or thinking about pursuing dentistry, this video is for you. Let's talk about the real rewards and hardships behind the mask.

You are doing something many healthcare providers/dentists are very scared to do and that's being comfortable with sharing your feelings on the internet! Massive respect for you and what you do bro! One quote I really like is "If you're willing to live like nobody else, then in the future, you'll be able to live like nobody else" The way I see this is if you choose to struggle and work hard now (which is something people aren't willing to do), you'll have a future filled with wealth and freedom (which is a lifestyle a majority of the population doesn't have) I promise you are on the right path and pretty soon you'll have your own practice making more money and having more freedom then you can even imagine! You aren't alone brother! Keep fighting this adversity and you'll be rewarded!

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO! you just made me realized that I might hold on to dental school for a bit, I am going to start with hygiene first and see where it goes. I used to work in Aventura as an office manager, then I moved back to Argentina to get my dental degree and now I will go back but for what you saying things got worse than it used to be, and honestly between the student loans, and the bureaucracy and not having the freedom to take your time with patient's it doesn't seem worth the effort, definitely not worth my health, with all the stress that comes with it. I learned that sometimes less its more.. less money but more quality of life. I guess I will bu stuck doing SRPs for a while. Thank you again !!

I spent $9000 on a root canal course, spending 4 days away from work which as you know dentists don’t get paid for. Anything my previous boss recommended I would immediately do the next day because I wanted to be better and he would be willing to coach me. As an associate dentist you are sacrificing a lot for their practice and ultimately that is what it is, it’s not our practice so we have to follow their rules, otherwise we have to go out on our own. I think of it as success tax, but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t wear me down day after day. Stress after stress. Specialist level stress for specialist level procedures. AND the thing about job security is so real. I would have the feeling that my previous job is at risk because I wasn’t fast enough, but ironically, they would never feel that they’re at risk of losing me as an associate because of the agreement of staying on for 3 years, and gaslighting and guilt-tripping me into doing so.

associate dentist work culture is soo toxic bro I feel this so much. I am looking for my own practice now because I simply cannot continue living my life at the helm of somebody else. it’s frustrating to feel like you’re under constant pressure without the same security in return. and the feeling of being stuck and feeling burnt out must feel like youre an indentured servant to the machine you constantly feed with your hard work. I wish there was more structure for general dentists after school that isn't a residency.

i’ve been there, and it’s frustrating to be pressured into decisions that don’t feel right. hang in there, and know you're definitely not alone in this struggle. it’s important we stay true to our values, even when it’s tough. appreciate you sharing that with me. everyday I realize the only way out is ownership of our very own dental practice. associate life is very very hard at times.

Thank you so much for the honesty, Dr. Rana. I had an older cousin go into dentistry for the same reasons as you did, and initially, he was making decent money and enjoyed his life. Seeing this, I wanted to pursue dentistry as well and am currently in the process of applying to dental schools. But now, a couple of years out, my cousin is absolutely miserable and is considering quitting the profession entirely. He bought a practice a couple of years ago for the same exact drawbacks of being an associate as you mentioned. But he realized that managing a practice was nothing like he thought. With staff constantly calling in sick and having to reschedule patients, or staff abruptly quitting or demanding a raise. Seeing the current state of dentistry really scares me about whether I should still continue to pursue the career, and if it is worth all the time, the effort, and the insanely high tuitions that seem impossible to pay back.

thank you for sharing your thoughts balraj! it’s understandable to feel scared given your cousin's experience. dentistry can be challenging, especially with the business side of things and the pressures that come with managing a practice. buttttt, it’s also a fulfilling career that allows you to make a real difference in people’s lives. if you’re passionate about it, that drive can help you navigate the tough times. it’s important to keep an open mind about different paths within dentistry, reach out to mentors or current dental students to get more insights into the field. ultimately, you have to weigh the risks and rewards, but know that you’re not alone. follow your passion, and keep going its all worth it!!

Hahaha yeah some dentists are very entitled people who choose to maximize their time outside the office, can’t blame them but it’s not me! I worked until 830pm on a Saturday last night (12.5 hours)!

@@DoctorRanaDDS Hey doc, do endodontists have to face the same problem as faced by associates like you? Can they have greater pay and more autonomy?
@DoctorRanaDDS
@DoctorRanaDDS 8 күн бұрын
@@youtubeuser1946 absolutely! endodontists make way more (1k production/hour on average) with 40-50% take home. but if you work for corporate as an endo its the same BS. forcing you to work fast, sub optimal results, for profit companies. but yes make more working less but your staring at a .5mm hole all day in the back of somebody's mouth all freaking day. nah I love endo but cant do it all day only. too many cool other parts of dentistry to just sell out for a big check

@@DoctorRanaDDS I am glad you are so open and true about all your opinions. Is endo objectively better than ortho? I heard ortho and prostho are quite competitive and GPs nowadays can do most of their specialist procedures, is it true?Is it worth specialising in ortho/ prostho if one is starting dental school now?Would you like to specialise someday? I love watching your videos. Keep making good content 👍🏻😄.

Dr Rana doesn’t respond often to his comment section. Engagement is a huge part of growing your channel. But I really do hope you earn that 500k plus life style. That’s asinine that they aren’t fairly compensating their dentist and push them to work faster and not be ethical. We are glad you care!

I respond! Just very busy these days. Dentistry is a slippery slope sometimes and I’m trying to be the best I possibly can while growing as a person trying to discover who I really am. Life’s a constant game of never ending learning and growth but the real journey I’m learning starts from within
