I’m grateful that I have stumbled upon your video. I found myself in a dilemma about 2wks ago… I had gone to a dentist office that I had read good reviews about because I had a tooth that had chipped. In this office the exam and X-rays (They didn’t use the lead protector, saying that it wasn’t necessary for the new way X-rays are done. This made me uncomfortable.) took approximately 1 hour. At the end of the exam I was told that I needed a “deep cleaning” and a back tooth that had drifted down years ago need extraction. All of this was not expected and my previous dentist never had these concerns. What also caught me by suprise was that when I had made this appointment, I had scheduled it as a standard cleaning exam only. Sure, I expected an exam with X-rays but not for X-rays and exam to take a full hour and would not be having a cleaning. I had never experienced that before. So here’s my dilemma… I was so uncomfortable with the now “scheduled” deep cleaning appointment that, I paid $50 cancellation fee not to go. Now I am stuck in a situation where if I go to another dentist for a second opinion, I will have to have the exam and X-rays redone and pay out of my pocket for the expense. This is not possible at this time AND I’m concerned about X-ray radiation exposure again so soon after all the X-rays that were done just now. What should I do? I have always tried to have a minimum of 2 cleanings a year, and I am overdue for a basic cleaning. Can you suggest an action for me to take at this time? Any suggestion or opinion will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you so much.

oh wow, so sorry you had to go through this unexpected series of events. you can always send me the x rays and i can take a look for you for free. these things do happen so i am not saying the dentist is wrong, but if i see the xray i can better confirm their diagnosis so you can either get the right cleaning you need, or to avoid a second payment for x rays. send them to aakashrrana@gmail.com and id be happy to help :)

you can also call that office let them know you want to have your x rays sent to your new dentist, they’ll have you fill out a record release form, and at your new dentist you would only be charged for the exam and cleaning not x-rays.

thank you! i’m trying my best to spread awareness to make dentistry more understandable and accessible for everybody. it’s sad how expensive it is in america and the lack of understanding of what dentists do. but hopefully i can change that :) any advice or videos you’re looking for more of?

Aspen dental tried to take me for a ride. They said I needed a $2,000 deep cleaning. Went to another dentist and said I just needed a $350 scaling since I did have large calculus on my teeth. (I did, I could even see it when I looked in the mirror)

sorry to hear them trying to take advantage of you. i worked there briefly and could not be apart of the scam any longer so i left. very sad but i hope you have found a more trusted dental healthcare provider

I found your video when look on the right side of KZbin where they have suggested videos. I never had a deep cleaning, but the dentist I was seeing when I lived in Illinois suggested that I needed a deep cleaning. The first time I went to that dentist I needed several cavities treated because of low vitamin d levels. After that appointment the dentist suggested I switch from an Oral B electric toothbrush to a Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrush. I have a severe gag reflex, so I had trouble using the Phillips Sonicare electric toothbrush because of the big brush head. My dental cleaning appointments since switching to the toothbrush were horrible. They were always saying I wasn't brushing good enough. At the last appointment they wanted to do a deep cleaning. I refused because I just didn't want to go back to that office mainly because I was moving out of state. I threw away the Phillips Sonicare toothbrush and bought an Oral B electric toothbrush. I switched to Crest Pro Health toothpaste and I have been taking vitamin d supplements. I waited a year before finding a dental office again. At my first appointment they praised me about how well I brush my teeth. I never had the deep cleaning done and it was never mentioned again that I needed one done. I don't know if the dental office was just trying to get more money out of me or if the deep cleaning was truly needed. But I'm glad it didn't get worse because I waited a year to go to the dentist again.

Dr. Rana, is it possible for a dentist to tell you that you’re doing a great job at home brushing and flossing, and your teeth and gums look great/healthy, yet you need an SRP treatment due to gums and bone loss from aging? And that once you have that treatment done, you’re good for just regular 6th month cleanings after that? Red flags during that appointment.

yess unfortunately that is possible though not likely. if you are young, non smoker, non diabetic, no serious health conditions. chances are low. if any of those apply there’s a chance that no matter what you the disease may reappear. once you have it done u can be put on a maintence cleaning and not the full blown SRP if symptoms do not arise again. hope this helps :)

Glad my dad and I ran away from aspen, my dentist from Panamá informed us that it was necessary, they tried to charge us up to $91,000.00 and it did not include braces at all or crowns or anything it sucks they tried to say we had to spend over $1000.00 for each tooth as for crowns then went on to try and sell us a toothbrush, on the phone this lady said oh its gonna be $9.00 but in person was a lot more, i dont have periodontal disease like they tried to sell the idea to me that i had in fact my dentist told us, we also took another xray and all, but i did get poked around on my gums turns out they check gum health so before going to aspen i knew what was going on LOL. Went to get treated by my dentist instead besides saved lots of money that way and he has already treated me before so I knew he could be trusted.

that’s incredibly expensive dental treatment wow. many dentists many of the time try to upsell your cleaning into a deep cleaning involving out of pocket antibiotics so be careful. i’m glad you found a dentist you can trust

@@DoctorRanaDDS thank you currently im on my journy with braces on my top teeth which they were very crooked, LOL, the thing is back at aspen they told me i had more then 12 cavities but truth is most of what they were counting were teeth that I had fillings on, so actual number of cavities was only 6 LOL, my dentist said to me you calm down you do not have periodontal gum disease or anything you only have six cavities, and then after the deep clean next visit he said I need to get two of my premolars out in my top teeth one on each side. It sucks that health insurance i get offered does not include dental, hearing, and vision either so had to go out to get the help i need for my teeth, you have a new sub from me thank you.

I had my deep cleaning last week. I had a great hygienist, and it was painless. Everything was explained and great equipment and very clean facility. A previous dental facility i first went to was not as thorough, and i found a good dentist and hygienist

I recently went a new dentist cuz my left the practice and they suggested I get srp, mind you ive never missed my 6 month cleaning and always look after teeth religiously, I don't eat too much sugar or smoke or even drink, the new dentist said I needed deep cleaning SRP, he said my pocket were deep, my previous dentist never said anything about SRP and has never said I had gum disease, I just didn't trust the new office and I decided to get a second opinion, the new place I visited said my pockets were 3cm or lower, I had my normal routine cleaning with the new one and decided to cancel all my appointments for the deep cleaning, my new dentist said they over prescribe srp and if I needed SRP my last dentist who I saw back in March would've seen it, you don't develop gum disease that fast. People wonder why so many people don't trust dentists, If I didn't get a second opinion I would've done a procedure I believe I didn't need and have paid close to $1000 cuz my insurance didn't cover it, I am so glad I switched. The other thing he said was after the Deep cleaning I needed to be seen every 2-3 months 🤣, no thank you, I glad I trusted my gut.

I had the deep cleaning,now I am trapped going back for maintenance every 3 months. I want to stop and do regular cleaning like one every six months, is it ok?

Have a question, just find out. I got packets of 4-5 in the back. The rest is 2s. But I don’t have bleeding gums or swelling of gum/ red gums. Dentist said I might need deep cleaning. But she also I have beautiful: healthy teeth. I floss and brush every day and night

Western Dental did a deep cleaning on me, which I think I needed because I did have some calculus on my teeth and bleeding gums. Nothing too crazy though. After the deep cleaning, though, the dentist was pushing me to get a product called GumX used for gum disease. Obviously, since that counted as an elective, my insurance doesn’t cover it, so it would have cost me about $1200. I declined the offer, then they started telling me about the dental care program where you can pay monthly and what not. I’m glad I declined.

I always think about how our ancestors lived life and the conclusion I always come to is life just isn't that bad. AGREED! its annoying but necessary nowadays. do you go for regular maintenance cleanings now?

Hey doc, My all the wisdom tooths are perfectly fine, just the right side lower side has been impacted. Any option where i can save it from extraction and relieve.the pain ?

wisdom tooth pain almost always leads to extraction because pain is coming from tooth and surrounding areas where food is getting trapped under the impaction. best to remove. you can send me an xray at aakashrrana@gmail.com to see if there’s any alternative solution :)

Yes I just dealt with ASPEN today. Never got charged or gave them my card. Was suspicious about the deep cleaning proposal I got from them. In cluded the anti biotics bit, and was over $4000 for the estimate WOW. Will get another opinion.

I had 4-5 pockets, no mention of bone loss verbally, and gum recession . But my dentist only did a scaling with inflammation. When I called back asking why not the root planing the hygienist said that since I didn’t have insurance at the time my dentist wanted to be “conservative” and when I said I appreciated it but would’ve liked the deep cleaning if necessary they said the dentist wouldn’t have scheduled me for the root planing unless I rly needed it. I’m not sure what to think. What could’ve been his rationale????

You said find a trust worthy dentist first. Good Luck with that. Money is the main driving force for most dentist which means unnecessary treatments.
