Looked up this engine because the same engine type is in the CSL Frontenac. I'm on my nightly walk close to Lock 2 on the Welland Canal, and Frontenac is approaching soon. I get to hear her in person (from the outside, though). :)

Thanks but that’s the baby motor. Only about 650hp 454. she clocked 87mph and won’t trim out as nice as when it had more power. Working on a 14-71 blown/mech injected gas 598ci bbc for it rn.

I agree for “out of the box” performance but I find them hard to dial in compared to a Holley. That being said I’ve got over 20 years dyno experience tuning Holley stuff and some of that is beyond the capabilities of mechanics without machining equipment so I understand why they’re favoured. Most Holley stuff doesn’t work out of the box...
@beenbeatenbybishops58455 ай бұрын
@@FlatBroke612 Great to hear back from you. I admire your patience and skill. I have always found Hollies very touchy. I can make them work, but not perform. I know that what I am going to say sounds pretty stupid, but, I have had great success with modifying Quadrjets. Most likely it is because they have a lot more slop built into them. Best of everything to you!

@FlatBroke6126 ай бұрын
Ha! She’s all together with two seats now. Had her out for a few runs check out the vids on my channel. This engine is only temporaryjust to get it out for the summer. I had 800hp on her before and the boat handled better with more power, was easier to trim out at speed. I’m working on a blown/injected 598ci for her eventually. Got most of the parts, need a DART block next.

It’s hard on the engines for sure. Sustained rpm and load. I’m having a little trouble with the oil pan and pick up right now maintaining oil pressure under cornering and deceleration. Everything has to be right or they go boom pretty easy.

I have a stupid question..please bear with me,since these ships and most of the new container ships have two structures at both ends,how does the crew move from front to back??
@FlatBroke6127 ай бұрын
That ship had two “side tunnels” which ran between the cargo hold bulkhead and the ships side, above the ballast tank tops and below the main deck. You could walk fore and aft in bad weather through these. They also contained piping and electrical runs to supply the forward end. Modern ships would have some sort of similar below deck access.
