Listening to the video with headphones on, takes me back to spotting at Breadcroft Lane, the HS125s, the skylarks, the light aircraft flying over. Thanks for bringing back great memories

I spent a lot of time there in my younger, and not so younger days - all changed now with wires blocking the views, and no Valentas.

Nice video but would have been more relaxing to watch if you had filmed the entire train most times showing it receeding into the distance, more so for IC125 since it has the rear power car.

The hilarious thing about this video is that the lady and the child running along the platform part way through the video are family... I recognised them instantly, despite the video being grainy, and I know because I was there on the day.

I remember when HSTs were new the suspension and couplings were so good that you often wouldn't notice them pulling away from a stand as a passenger. Couplings not maintained so well now so you can get a little bump from neighbouring carriages when starting off. Also I felt a sense of pride that we had produced such a thing in this country although this feeling is strangely undiminished even with MTU power since I'm pro German. Although the Valenta was great, MTU power brings HST up to date.

I now volunteer for the NRM Shildon, slowly creeping towards my guards man ticket, then onto my fireman training :) Would love to go mainline, but they say you should never meet ur heros (work for them in this case) Hope NRM take a mk3 IC 9 car set + 4 power cars (all valenta's) into preservation. IC set + 2 Power cars 1 Power car as spares. 1 power for stripping parts to retro-fit the prototype power car (41 001) at York

IC at the very least should not have been privatised. To much red tape between the ROSCO's, TOC, NR, DfT, RAIB, ect.... Much prefered IC when it was under one name (i know it was BR) I'd prefer to see the entire rail system go back to "The Big Four" type of running. If BR never happened what trains would we have now? I was 5 when this was recorded, don't remmeber alot, but i remmeber the Valenta reducing me to tears as a 5 yr old in Darlington station. Every weekend with my late grandad

I've never actually seen one of these locos in real life, I've only seen photos of them in books. I've always thought that they look rather pleasant. I'm a bit surprised by the amount of black exhaust she's producing. The engine has an interesting sound, IMHO. Thanks.

@Breeze646 Should have worded it differently to reflect just nj transit and amtrak phasing them out.Canada still sees potential and returns in those motors instead of depreciation and maintenance columns like RRs in US plus the loss of taxpayer money if they don't spend it..If it's a P42 in nj transit, they have a color scheme with a vertical black stripe on cab side engineers call "elvis".My grandfather retired in a GG1.
@OttawaSouthGuy
@OttawaSouthGuy 14 жыл бұрын
@speedskiff2 And the F40PHs are not being phased out in Canada, in fact VIA Rail right now is rebuilding all of them. The way to tell if they are rebuilt or not is that the rebuilt ones are in the same livery as the P42s. They plan to refurbish all of them, however the first one they refurbished (6400) is now written off because 2 months ago it got into a major accident just outside Quebec City.
@OttawaSouthGuy
@OttawaSouthGuy 14 жыл бұрын
@milepost326 F40PH is a engine in North America that used to provide all the passenger service. It used to be Amtrak's main locomotive before the P42 took over. The F40PH is still used up in Canada for intercity service, I should know, I live in Canada.
