@milepost326 F40PH is a engine in North America that used to provide all the passenger service. It used to be Amtrak's main locomotive before the P42 took over. The F40PH is still used up in Canada for intercity service, I should know, I live in Canada.

@speedskiff2 And the F40PHs are not being phased out in Canada, in fact VIA Rail right now is rebuilding all of them. The way to tell if they are rebuilt or not is that the rebuilt ones are in the same livery as the P42s. They plan to refurbish all of them, however the first one they refurbished (6400) is now written off because 2 months ago it got into a major accident just outside Quebec City.

Splendid montage. Well filmed and put together. The HST is simply the best. I haven't done it yet but I would guess it'll be a nightmare photographing these machines at those speeds if one is wanting to get their numbers, but I guess snapping it at a distance like from 3:43 onwards would make life easier. 5/5 :D

It's that passenger locomotive with angled flat shovel nose that amtrak and nj transit used as did via rail. they are being phased out now.

When I first read about the MTU engines I was afraid the power cars would suffer a personality crisis. Glad to see that I was wrong on this one. Too bad I've never been within 1000 miles of an HST before. >_

@Breeze646 Should have worded it differently to reflect just nj transit and amtrak phasing them out.Canada still sees potential and returns in those motors instead of depreciation and maintenance columns like RRs in US plus the loss of taxpayer money if they don't spend it..If it's a P42 in nj transit, they have a color scheme with a vertical black stripe on cab side engineers call "elvis".My grandfather retired in a GG1.

Nice video but would have been more relaxing to watch if you had filmed the entire train most times showing it receeding into the distance, more so for IC125 since it has the rear power car.

looks like your country's version of the F40PH. "The little engine that could".

you can really tell how poor the MTU units sound compared to the old Valenta whoosh and scream you get as they pass.

Ok, I'm going to be frank and I know I'll get lots of hateful comments for this. But why would you spend five and a half minutes watching the same type of tain going past, over and over, with the same sound, all looking the same. Is it not boring? Can anyone else see my point. Maybe watching one is cool, but 50+? Is it not just pointless?
