i have to admit, you have gotta love the british two tone horn close up and especially from a distance, this is a horn i'll never get fed-up of hearing :)

Hellfire!!! I never understand why Hymeks don't have a huge following. I think they are top Thrash Muffins! Awesome!

Just got back from Somerset (Wick St Lawrence) and Cornwall (St Ives) and went to the West Somerset Railway. Saw lots of steam but no diesels (except a DMU, although years ago I loved them on the St Ives to St Erth branch). As an enthusiastic trainspotter in the 60s and 70s, I've just checked my Ian Allan Combined Volume to find I didn't "spot" many Hymeks ... only 15 of the 101 that were built. Loads of Westerns and Warships but not many Hymeks. Thanks for posting here what I missed. Awesome!

I've never actually seen one of these locos in real life, I've only seen photos of them in books. I've always thought that they look rather pleasant. I'm a bit surprised by the amount of black exhaust she's producing. The engine has an interesting sound, IMHO. Thanks.

Well! I bashed Diesel Hydraulics as a kid and learned a little about how they worked then drove diesel electrics on the main line a few years later. I think I'll stick with what I know then!!!!

...in it's day the Hymek seemed rather 'Racey' with it's swept back cab and large two tones on the roof! Oh and the 'sundim' glass screens always caught the light too...

Nice one milepost326! I love the sound of this loco, don't know anything about the type, and agree with other comments that you should produce a dvd for sale, you have the eye, the skill and the camera equipment. What camera were you using?

wrong on both counts - warships and westerns both have stressed skin bodywork, hymeks have underframes, warships have 2 MD650's with 12cyl, hymeks have the 16-cyl MD870. warships and westerns have K-M type bogies, hymeks have commonwealth bogies. Hope this helps.

They "claged" a bit towards the end but not like 7076 here. I think the injectors might need adjusting or replacing, but lets hope it stays like this, it's hellfire!!!!
