They tend to be lighter, and to me, they are still easier to repair well. But I am becoming increasingly aware of a small downside: they are louder. The airframe seems to act like a soundbox to amplify motor noise. So I use foam models when I don't want to draw too much attention.
@AxelsDIY2 ай бұрын
Maybe, but it also depends a lot on what motor and ESCs you use, and if the propeller is balanced. If there is not much sound to start with, there is not much that gets amplified.

Are you using Tadiomaster ER8GV receiver with GPS plugged into the Rx USRT?
@AxelsDIY2 ай бұрын
No, I have a Mateksys ELRS-R24-V receiver in this one. And yes, a very basic BN220 GPS is plugged into it. The ER8GV would probably be a great more modern choice, but it was not available when I got my receiver over a year ago.
@RizHassan2 ай бұрын
@@AxelsDIY I had asked RadioMaster if a GPS can be used on the UART provided on the Rx? Here is their response: “ ER8GV cannot be inserted into an existing GPS. If a GPS sensor with CRSF protocol is developed in the future, it can be used. Now if you want to have a GPS Telemetry project, you need a Telemetry Flight Control that supports CRSF protocol to do this work. , such as Betaflight.”
@AxelsDIY2 ай бұрын
@@RizHassan Okay, that was more than I knew, I expected them to just take standard NMEA-messages from a standard GPS. In that case, you could look into using Mateksys receivers instead. Using one of there CRSF to PWM converters with a small serial receiver would also work. There are solutions other to get GPS telemetry without a flight controller, but maybe not from Radomaster.
@RizHassan2 ай бұрын
@@AxelsDIY I have free flight related question or anyone on your channel. I am sure you are familiar with E20 timer that can be used for shutting down motor and to initiate de-thermalization sequentially based on time setup. In the old days we use to have a mechanical timers for glow motors. So the question is, can we use EdgeTx timer to initiate a PWM signal to shutoff the motor and initiate de-thermalization to a servo? The idea is to have a RC glider (like my Benny BoxCar) to be used both as RC model and a free flight competition model without any changes to the hardware. I hope my question make sense :)
@Videolinquency2 ай бұрын
Fascinating. Your build clips almost relayed the smell of acetone from balsa glue curing. Expertly edited. Interesting to see how modern materials adjust or improve on the tricks we used in the old days. Thank you for communicating this respectful attitude to flying models! I am so tired of watching idiots wrecking RTF foam planes with no idea why things went south.
@AxelsDIY2 ай бұрын
As an experienced RC pilot, I still think foamies have a place, but I definitely like those kinds of more serious aircraft more. Balsa planes are very enjoyable to build, and they fly better.

Great video production. I just took delivery of my Slite v2 today and confirmed what i expected- the manual is not in English. I love this plane and anxious to begin the build. However, I'm concerned about not having the benefit of the verbal explanation. Did you build it strictly by the plans and photos? Or were you able to translate? Thanks again for your video. I'm sure it will be helpful. Jerry G

Brother what's different of 3s lipo battery and 3s li ion battery in the rc
@AxelsDIY2 ай бұрын
The Li-ion battery has a slightly lower voltage. It can't provide as much power (Amps), but it has slightly more capacity (mAh) for the same weight which will give longer flight times.
@-fathakker2 ай бұрын
@@AxelsDIY This means, for example, that the Lipo gives 100% power and the Li ion gives 50% power?

@@adbas6201 I looked it up. I Didn't even know about STABILIZE för ArduPlane! But as an experienced pilot, I don't think I would like it. I prefer full manual control, otherwise, I want the full self-leveling behavior of FBWA. It can be nice in very windy conditions as you say.

I just lost a foamie a few days ago, same issue. Was just lucky it wasn't one of my arduplane builds. Definitely a design deficiency .
@AxelsDIY3 ай бұрын
But if it were an ArduPilot build, it would have gone into loiter or return to home mode. Then you would have time to figure out the issue, re-mount the module and get it working again to land to plane.
@jonnyueland77903 ай бұрын
Might not be the ELRS. Did all the servoes use power from the ESC? If so that can be the problem. I crashed 2 planes before I fixed it with a separate power supply.
@AxelsDIY3 ай бұрын
I had two separate BEC modules in that plane as redundancy, and they where working. I was also been able to recreate this issue afterward on the ground, and also with other planes. Note that this is not a problem with ELRS, but with all kinds of external modules in general!
