A good puzzle let's the player struggle organically and try different methods naturally. An obnoxious puzzle miscommunicates and misguides the player to appear more complex than it is.. This is like letting a boulder run down a staircase to one shot you.. sure, now you need to do a double take, but the failure isn't the player's fault.. it's an intentionally obnoxious design to "get you".
