Do these compare to the same price as the Shari nodes. Our club just purchased 8 Shari node kits for $135 AUD each. If the price is about the same price I might give your node a try.

Nice working app, but it just uses way too much date for a VOIP, I used 5 gb of data with it on daily for 7 days, the amount of data is too embarrassing to mention, but will not use this on my Cellular data line just on wifi. The Zello Walkie Talkie app for a month of daily use only use under 1 gb of data if that.

I bought a Yaesu FT-5D and an OpenSpot4 Pro, but the audio quality of Yaesu System Fusion, YSF isn’t as good as FM, a disappointed about the digital modes YSF, DMR, and D-Star. I then bought the Kits4Hams Shari with the Raspberry Pi 4, the assembled and tested version. Now, I have to figure out how to use the Shari PiHat4. From your experience, is the AllStarLink audio quality significantly better than the audio quality that you get with the YSF, DMR, and D-Star digital modes?

My biggest gripe with dmr is people never leave any time between transmissions. I mean never. No matter how many DMR network sites and forums or tg webpages constantly reminding people to leave a few seconds between them.... People still hit that ptt as fast as they can. I always have to go to my dashboard and disconnect the tg that way. Occasionally I get lucky and the entire conversation is over but not usually. I love ham radio but I will never understand how certain people fight to hit the ptt over anyone else to say absolutely nothing most of the time lol. Just be patient and let other people get a transmission in on occasion. It will eventually come back around and you can go off on whatever crazy tangent you are dying to say on the airways nuts! 😂

Thank you. I have a Mini 1.3 OLED Zum Spot Mini. I haven’t been able to get it to connect to any of my wireless networks. I plan to give the Ethernet adapter a try. It’s just a shame that the pi-star software doesn’t do a better job at network configurations. They should also add a section that shows the Ethernet adapter settings.

Great informative video. My question is, can you run more than one adapter if they are name brand or a better quality device? I am having issues with the Pi-Star dashboard if my computer is Ethernet and the hotspot is Wifi.

Georgie, The point is linking things together world wide, just like YSF or a DMR or dstar room but in analog. For instance, my local club repeater is hooked into all-star. So it can be accessed from anywhere in the world and we can talk.

Just starting out in dmr I'm going for thr simplex one right now
@dreupen
@dreupen Жыл бұрын
Please realize that Ham's hack the use of the term simplex. This leads to people taking it beyond a redefine. For example, your definition of duplex is completely wrong. It is possible to operate duplex with tx & rx on the same frequency. This takes a more expensive radio, one with two transceivers. Wee we operate on repeaters we are operating half-duplex. The is the same as operating peer to peer on a single frequency. To operate true simplex, just turn on your auto's FM stereo. That's true simplex.
@vk4nga
@vk4nga Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for taking the time to correct me. I'm no expert on the subject, but my video needs to be taken in context of common hotspot terminology, particularly if operating on DMR. Here's an idea, why don't you take the time to record a video so people are further informed.
@dreupen
@dreupen Жыл бұрын
@@vk4nga Yes, it is unfortunate that the miss use has become "common" for part of Amateur Radio. Note, for HF operations the poor terminology is not used, but rather the correct term of "split mode operations". I am not criticizing your use of the common kludge, but criticizing your extension in falsely defining "duplex". Yes, I'm on a mission to point this out. Fortunately, the plague exists only with VHF/UHF operators. I could post a video, but the reality is that throwing water on the fire is more effective. And besides, comments help you regarding the KZbin algorithm.

Thanks, this is one of the best videos I've seen on this topic. When you say you use 2m for your Allstar node, is that primarily because your other shack radios are all 70cm mostly? I mostly operate on 2m for the rest of my stuff so was thinking 70cm might be the go for mine.
@vk4nga

Hi David, yes all of my hotspots are 70cm. That's why I chose 2m. Since making that video I now manufacture AllStar nodes. Take a look vk4nga.com.au Cheers Glenn

Trying to get my head around Duplex Hotspot. Would the only difference be you can listen to a repeater through the hotspot to both Time Slots? This would work if your radio's main channel and sub channel where on the same frequency but one on Time Slot 1 and the other on Time Slot 2 along with their specific Talk Groups? Do I have this right? No other benefits besides listening to 2 Timeslots at the same time? Does a Duplex hotspot have any value when your on a Network like TGIF
