JUST FABULOUS... This arrangement brings out the spirit of the song so much better than the versrion recorded by Nana at the beginning of her career ( available here in KZbin). Thanks for posting it.

It's a westernized cover of a Greek traditional folk song (originally from Tilos island). The lyrics are about a girl, named Irene (Eri or Erini, both versions are used in the song). The singer asks Erini "where have you been in the morning, where have you been at noon, where have you been during sunset time", implying that Erini didn't show up because she was fooling around with guys all day long. Then, as an advice, the lyrics go: "I'm going to tell you one thing Erini, and may Virgin Mary judge me. You should find just one man, one nice young guy, because if you keep going on like that, not even Lias the Dopey will agree to marry you".

Same to you - thanks for the proper Ειρήνη spelling! "Irene" was popular when my parents were born, but no longer in fashion here. I suspect the problem was that this transliteration started getting pronounced as if it conformed to English orthographic patterns, ie. Just "I-reen", lacking the last vowel. I expect any re-adopters will spell it Erini (or similar) to preserve that third syllable. I still get the occasional joke about the odd "y" in my given name. It's a hard life. :)

Even when standardly spelt, a careful US English pronunciation of Martin sounds to me like they're saying Marden. It's nice when people spell my name correctly when writing, but not a problem when they don't. What can you do indeed! Hope it's not too big an issue for yourself. Great comment - thanks for indulging me.

Does anyone know whether this was recorded on any of her commercially available recordings? I've got the song on a Live album from the Olympia, but I'd love to get a recording of this or more of the actual Greek songs minus the audience noise.
