I've seen them twice, first time on Sept. 10, 2001. It was a teeny tiny little venue in Encinitas, California, I don't think there were 50 people there (and it was sold out). I had caught the tail end of "Orphan Girl" on television, some kind of "unplugged" show or other, awhile before that & had no idea who they were, & when I figured that out I went to the first concert I could find. The concert was [insert superlatives, any attempt on my part will sound forced]. I was utterly blown away by the fineness, the exquisitely detailed performance, which, seeing this, they have now honed even finer. During the intermission I had an eerie experience in the bathroom, where a very old woman with Alzheimer's became frozen while watching herself in the mirror, literally catatonic, & I became frozen watching her, until her caregiver came & broke the spell. The next morning 911 happened, I was standing at the sink watching CNN & there was Maria Bartiromo trying to commentate from under some stairs in what looked like a war zone. So I think of that concert as the end of some kind of innocence; the whole experience was a strange, cryptic metaphor that I still think about to this day.

a very hard song to listen to in many ways. Its heartbreaking sadness and cutting lyrics beautifully encapsulate the pain of a once loving relationship in its death throes.

When I see the number of views on their perfect performances, I'm torn between being mad that it's not in the 10s of millions, as it should be, and feeling like I'm somehow more discerning and privileged because so many people are dumb and have poor taste. *sigh* I realize other people's bad taste and stupidity don't really make me any better...and I don't think David and Gillian's music would be improved by being vastly more popular. It is what it is, they're doing pretty well and their fans don't just like them, we love them. Which, for an artist, has to be pretty nice.

Kerth Gersen I do understand what you mean. It’s in it’s most organic form here. Too much popularity and commercialism will somewhat kill it. Love the song.

It’s not a “live”recording. It wouldn’t be so quiet, you’d hear air. In other words, it wouldn’t sound like a “studio recording.” Even if it was recorded directly from the “board’” it wouldn’t sound so “CD” perfect. Enjoy this. These two are a gift to humanity.

I recently read that this song will probably be on the new album due out on June 28 and I hope it's true. The album is called "The Harrow and The Harvest".
