In very old farms, the family used to sleep in the same building as the livestock. The family would stay in one end & the animals in the other. Sometimes the family would sleep above the animals in a loft space.Sharing the same building enabled people to take advantage of warmth from the animals. So anyway maybe the barn & the house were one at some point.
