What a treasure! The sound is so warm, yet unmuddied. I love the way Beethoven sounds on it!

Chickering grands are fantastic!! The tone can't be matched, and this one is no exception, just beautiful, AND beautifully played, I might add!

That piano sounds gorgeous! I have a 1872 model 109 Chickering in black Walnut. I have high respect for Chickering pianos. They’ve been an under rated piano for too long. That’s a wonderful video! Thanks!

My 1925 Chickening is a dream to play! The grandfather clock next to it loves to chime in on time and in tune

I’ve always always always wanted one of these, they have such an insanely stately presence

Older pianos pre 1910s were sonically superior in many ways than any piano after…

A warm sounding piano well suited to a salon musicale. It would be interesting to play Brahms Horn Trio, Op. 40 with this instrument.

Funny, you should say that. I am a French hornist as well and I performed the Brahms horn trio on French horn with my father on piano and my daughter on violin!

It's wonderful to hear Chopin on an instrument made more like something he would have played.

Does it have the Erard action or the Edwin Brown?

I hear Beethoven, and not Steinway. Bravo.

The sound is warm and wonderful, but it does have a faster decay than later models.

I don’t agree. Listen to some other of Estrin’s videos, he uses micing that understates sustain. While it is straight strung, it has a full cast iron plate and so should be capable of stable tuning and good sustain. Also you might find a comparison done this year by Olive Emil Wetter interesting, between an old Erard and a new Fazioli, using same micing for both.

@ okay. So it’s the mic.

It's probably me, but the Chopin seemed to match this Chickering's timbre.

This Chickering is much closer to the type of piano Chopin played than a modern piano is. Liszt actually played this same model Chickering!

I can see it on eBay for 68k. And another one waiting for restoration for 2k. The sound is very nice. I would still prefer German pianos thoug.
