Hey Shy Lama, I have a question regarding engineering and geology/geophysics. I want to become a civil engineer, more specifically a geotechnical engineer, but I also want to learn about how the earth as a whole works rather than just working on soil and rocks on the surface. Therefore, is it possible to combine civil engineering with geophysics, so I can use geophysical models to solve geotechnical tasks? Because that way I can use geophysical theories to solve engineering problems. Is that possible?

Does "Geologist by night" mean you are still a Geologist but are NOT sitting on Well Sites anymore? When I was a Driller, the Geologist in Charge would turn it over to me and allow me to sit the Well while he went home for the night even though I had NOT received appropriate Geologist's training. Where we were Drilling, calling the Ordovician as T.D. was easy while calling the top of the Mississippian as Casing Point was hard. At least it was for me NOT being a Geologist.

I used to be an Oilfield Driller but I don't remember seeing a rig built like that. Is it drilling for Oil or some other Mineral?

@@brucewinningham4959 Yes, it's a super single oil drilling rig. Small but very efficient for shallower drills. Did you work on Canadian or US rigs?

my grandpa used to work for USGS as a core driller. they sent him all over the world chasing metals, minerals, uranium, oil, etc. I know he had been from the copper mines in Michigan, to Uranium in the Southwest to the Middle east, Pakistan, and Thailand. I believe in Thailand he was working around the Chao Praya river in Bangkok, not sure to what end but i know it had something to do with the river. Difficult to build as the whole city was built on silt. This was all long before I was born 50s-60s. wish i had more info, but fascinating.

I'm a writer and i like to be accurate in my work and i have a great love of earth and how she works. Geology is a great tool in understanding the workings of our plants. I have one question right now and it's important in what I'm writing about. " What would happen to the planet if all the magma was removed, i won't go into how that's not relevant to the question, i just need to know what effect it would have on the planet. Please and thank you if you could answer this question with as much realism as possible.
